Background: Due to malnutrition and tumor cachexia, body composition (BC) is frequently altered and known to adversely affect short- and long-term results in patients with cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). Here, we explored immune cell populations in the tumor and liver of CCA patients with respect to BC.

Methods: A cohort of 96 patients who underwent surgery for CCA was investigated by multiplexed immunofluorescence (MIF) techniques with computer-based analysis on whole-tissue slide scans to quantify and characterize immune cells in normal liver and tumor regions.

Memories are dynamic constructs whose properties change with time and experience. The biological mechanisms underpinning these dynamics remain elusive, particularly concerning how shifts in the composition of memory-encoding neuronal ensembles influence the evolution of a memory over time. By targeting developmentally distinct subpopulations of principal neurons, we discovered that memory encoding resulted in the concurrent establishment of multiple memory traces in the mouse hippocampus.

Clinical features and prediction of long-term survival after surgery for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma.

Introduction: The treatment of perihilar Cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA) poses specific challenges not only due to its high perioperative complication rates but also due its dismal long-term prognosis with only a few long-term survivors (LTS) among the patients. Therefore, in this analysis characteristics and predictors of LTS in pCCA patients are investigated.

Material And Methods: In this single center analysis, patients undergoing curative-intent liver resection for pCCA between 2010 and 2022 were categorized into long-term and short-term survivors (STS) excluding perioperative mortality.

Students and physicians differ in perception of quality of life in patients with tumors of the upper gastrointestinal tract.

Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) has recently gained importance as treatment options for tumors of the upper GI tract lead to improved long-term survival. HRQoL is often estimated by physicians even though their reliability and the impact of outside factors such as contact time and level of medical education is unclear. Therefore, in this study we investigated the correlation between physicians', students', and patients' assessment of HRQoL.
