Introduction: We assessed the impact of the IsoPSA test for prostate cancer risk assessment on provider patient management decisions in a real-world clinical setting.

Methods: A total of 38 providers, including advanced practice providers, fellowship trained oncologists and general urologists in the Cleveland Clinic health system including both community-based practices and academic locations, enrolled 900 men being evaluated for prostate cancer; 734 met inclusion criteria (age ≥50 years, total serum prostate specific antigen [PSA] ≥4 and <100 ng/ml and no history of prostate cancer) and IsoPSA indication for use. A standard template was used to document biopsy recommendation prior to and after receiving IsoPSA results.

The use of tobacco leaves as a food ingredient has been controversially discussed, and alcoholic beverages containing distillates from fermented tobacco leaves can be found as niche products. Currently there is an absence of knowledge regarding the composition and toxicity of these products. One liqueur sample based on distilled Louisiana Perique tobacco was analysed using quantitative FTIR, GC-FID, LC/MS/MS and GC/MS/MS methodologies, and qualitatively using non-targeted NMR and GC/MS techniques.

Research was conducted to ascertain whether analyses of vintage absinthe samples represent their original composition in the early 1900s. Absinthe stored in traditional green glass bottles and irradiated with ultraviolet light for up to 200 h exhibited unchanged composition. Samples stored in clear glass exhibited an 18% reduction in beta-thujone content and a concurrent decoloration.

Thirteen samples of authentic absinthe dating from the preban era (i.e., prior to 1915) were analyzed for parameters that were hypothesized as contributing to the toxicity of the spirit, including naturally occurring herbal essences (thujone, pinocamphone, fenchone), methanol, higher alcohols, copper, and antimony.
