Article Synopsis
  • Numerous venomous snake species, including the Persian horned viper (P. persicus), are significant medical concerns in Iran, particularly due to their potential to cause snakebite incidents.
  • The venom of P. persicus contains highly toxic components, including enzymes such as phospholipase A2 and L-amino acid oxidase, which were thoroughly analyzed using various advanced laboratory techniques like HPLC and LC-MS/MS.
  • This study enhances understanding of the venom's protein profile, providing crucial insights that can assist in developing effective antivenoms and improving treatment strategies for snakebites in the region.

As () epsilon toxin (ETX) ranks as the third most potent clostridial toxin after botulinum and tetanus toxins, vaccination is necessary for creatures that can be affected by it to be safe from the effects of this toxin. Nowadays, nanostructures are good choices for carriers for biological environments. We aimed to synthesize biomimetic biodegradable nanodevices to enhance the efficiency of the ETX vaccine.

Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is considered as contagious in livestock, which is caused by the Picornavridae virus family known as FMD virus (FMDV). In the present study, the VP1 gene from FMDV (O strain) was expressed and purified. In addition, nanoliposomes were utilized as an adjuvant.

Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is an acute and highly contagious disease in livestock, such as cattle, sheep, and pigs, leading to a lot of economic losses. The current FMD vaccines formulated by inactivated whole-virus and adjuvant successfully reduce disease outbreaks in many regions of the world. Immunological studies on FMD viruses revealed that the dominant epitope in arising neutral antibody response is amino acid residues constructing the G-H loop, constituting a surface loop of the structural protein, termed VP1.

Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a highly contagious viral disease affecting cloven-hoofed animals. The particular virus causing FMD disease is called FMD virus and is a member of the Aphthovirus genus in the Picornaviridae family. The FMD virus has an 8500 nt long single strain positive RNA genome with one open reading frame (ORF) trapped in an icosahedral capsid protein.
