Purpose: The LIGHTSITE III study evaluated multiwavelength photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy in nonexudative (dry) age-related macular degeneration (AMD) using the LumiThera Valeda Light Delivery System.
Methods: LIGHTSITE III is a randomized, controlled trial to assess the safety and effectiveness of PBM in dry AMD. Subjects were given multiwavelength PBM (590, 660, and 850 nm) or Sham treatment delivered in a series of nine sessions over 3 to 5 weeks every four months over 24 months.
Models of terrestrial planet formation predict that the final stages of planetary assembly-lasting tens of millions of years beyond the dispersal of young protoplanetary disks-are dominated by planetary collisions. It is through these giant impacts that planets like the young Earth grow to their final mass and achieve long-term stable orbital configurations. A key prediction is that these impacts produce debris.

Methods: This phase III, observer-masked study was conducted in 6 centers by 10 surgeons and enrolled 60 patients undergoing pars plana vitrectomy. Preservative-free triamcinolone (up to 4 mg) was administered to all patients to enhance visualization of vitreous and membranes.

Purpose: To determine whether retinal progenitor cells in the inner nuclear layer give rise to regenerated cones after laser ablation of photoreceptors in adult goldfish retina.
Methods: Using a technique developed previously in this laboratory, photoreceptors in the retina of adult goldfish were ablated with an argon laser. The mitotic marker, bromodeoxyuridine, was used to label proliferating and regenerated cells, which were identified with cell-specific markers.
