Photophysical properties and in vitro photocytotoxicity of disodium salt 2.4-di(alpha-methoxyethyl)-deuteroporphyrin-IX (Dimegine).

Photophysical and in vitro photocytotoxicity studies were performed for the photosensitizer Dimegine, a disodium salt 2.4-di(alpha-methoxyethyl)-deuteroporphyrin-IX with very low systemic toxicity. The singlet oxygen and luminescence quantum yield were Φ = 0,65 ± 0,06, and Φ=0,11 ± 0,01 respectively, and were independent of the excitation wavelength.

[Structural peculiarities of Na+,K+-ATPase isozymes from the calf brain].

Functionally active preparations of Na+,K(+)-ATPase isozymes from calf brain that contain catalytic subunits of three types (alpha 1, alpha 2, and alpha 3) were obtained using two approaches: a selective removal of contaminating proteins by the Jorgensen method and a selective solubilization of the enzyme with subsequent reconstitution of the membrane structure by the Esmann method. The ouabain inhibition constants were determined for the isozymes. The real isozyme composition of the Na+ pump from the grey matter containing glial cells and the brain stem containing neurons was determined.

Na+,K(+)-ATPase isozymes in the bovine brain grey matter and brain stem.

Active preparations of Na+,K(+)-ATPase containing three types of catalytic isoforms were isolated from the bovine brain to study the structure and function of the sodium pump. Na+,K(+)-ATPase from the brain grey matter was found to have a biphasic kinetics with respect to ouabain inhibition and to consist of a set of isozymes with subunit composition of alpha 1 beta 1, alpha 2 beta m and alpha 3 beta m (where m = 1 and/or 2). The alpha 1 beta 1 form clearly dominated.

[A fatal case of trichinelliasis with intensive invasion and acute massive hemorrhage from a stomach ulcer].

The paper deals with a fatal case of trichinosis in a 61-year-old male due to acute massive gastric hemorrhage from the old silent gastric ulcer developed at week 8 after the onset of infection (or at week 3 after the appearance of the first clinical signs). At autopsy, the method of ingestion of cross-striated muscular samples revealed high Trichinella spiralis infection rates: from 135 larvae per g of muscles of the tongue to 512 larvae in the diaphragm. Infection had occurred due to long-term (1-month) ingestion of the pork obtained from a subsidiary farm of Moscow Province.

[Genetic engineering of oxytocin: isolation of oxytocinoyllysine].

A hybrid protein, Il-Ox-K, was obtained from cells of E. coli TG1/pTOTEilox strain. The N-terminal sequence of this protein (63 amino acid residues) is a fragment of human interleukin-3, and the C-terminal sequence represents the full amino acid sequence of oxytocin flanked by a lysine residue.
