Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic was caused by the zoonotic betacoronavirus SARS-CoV-2. SARS-CoV-2 variants have emerged due to adaptation in humans, shifting SARS-CoV-2 towards an endemic seasonal virus. We have termed this process 'virus domestication'.

Viruses are diverse pathogens that use host factors to enter cells and cause disease. Imaging the entry and replication phases of viruses and their interactions with host factors is key to fully understanding viral infections. This review will discuss how confocal microscopy and imaging flow cytometry are used to investigate virus entry and replication mechanisms in fixed and live cells.

Despite decades of efforts, an effective vaccine against HCMV has yet to be developed. However, the discovery of pentameric gH complex on viral surface which contains potent neutralizing epitopes may help enable development of an effective vaccine.

Detection of malformed or damaged virions with reduced potency is rate-limited by release potency assays with long turnaround times. Thus, preempting batch failures caused by out of specification potency results is almost impossible.

Here, we apply such design strategies to desalination membranes. A series of polyamide desalination membranes-which were synthesized in an industrial-scale manufacturing line and varied in processing conditions but retained similar chemical compositions-show increasing water permeability and active layer thickness with constant sodium chloride selectivity.
