Objective: To examine mortality in members of the two UK Houses of Parliament compared with the general population, 1945-2011.
Design: Retrospective cohort analysis of death rates and predictors of mortality in Members of Parliament (MPs) and members of the House of Lords (Lords).
Setting: UK.
Background In order to comply with clinical governance requirements and receive payments under the Qualities and Outcomes Framework, GPs are required to undertake an annual survey of patient experience using a validated assessment tool. Dentists, in contrast, have embryonic clinical governance structures. The provision of quality dental services was identified in NHS Dentistry: Options for Change as a priority for the future.

Over 700 women were initially assessed at a pre-diagnostic visit to a breast clinic. Of those who were originally diagnosed, 39 women participated in all four study assessments, completed over a two-and-one-half-year period following diagnosis.
