- The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of two indicators, pulmonary artery pulse pressure indexed (PAPi) and radial artery pulse pressure (rPP), in predicting the success of weaning patients off venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) used for cardiogenic shock.
- Conducted as a retrospective cohort study at a single tertiary hospital, researchers analyzed data from patients who received VA-ECMO between 2017 and 2021 and explored the relation between these pressures and weaning outcomes.
- Results showed that higher values of PAPi and rPP were significantly correlated with successful weaning, indicating that these measurements could serve as reliable predictors for clinicians managing VA-ECMO patients.
