Lack of weight gain and increased mortality during and after treatment among adults with drug-resistant tuberculosis in Georgia, 2009-2020.

Background: While low body mass index (BMI) is associated with poor tuberculosis (TB) treatment outcomes, the impact of weight gain during TB treatment is unclear. To address this knowledge gap, we assessed if lack of weight gain is associated with all-cause mortality during and after TB treatment.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study among adults with newly diagnosed multi- or extensively drug-resistant (M/XDR) pulmonary TB in Georgia between 2009-2020.

HIV stigma and other barriers to COVID-19 vaccine uptake among Georgian people living with HIV/AIDS: A mixed-methods study.

We conducted a study in Georgia to examine behavioral insights and barriers to COVID-19 vaccine uptake among people living with HIV (PLWH). Between December 2021-July 2022, we collected quantitative data to evaluate participants' demographics, COVID-19 knowledge, attitude, perception, and HIV stigma as potential covariates for being vaccinated against COVID-19. We conducted a multivariate analysis to define the factors independently associated with COVID-19 vaccination among PLWH.

Impact of Prior Tuberculosis Treatment With New/Companion Drugs on Clinical Outcomes in Patients Receiving Concomitant Bedaquiline and Delamanid for Multidrug- and Rifampicin-Resistant Tuberculosis.

Background: There are scarce data on the clinical outcomes of persons retreated with new/companion anti-tuberculosis (TB) drugs for multidrug- and rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (MDR/RR-TB). We sought to evaluate the efficacy and safety of bedaquiline and delamanid containing regimens among patients with and without prior exposure to the new/companion drugs (bedaquiline, delamanid, linezolid, clofazimine, and fluoroquinolones).

Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study among patients with pulmonary MDR/RR-TB in Georgia who received bedaquiline and delamanid combination as a part of a salvage regimen from November 2017 to December 2020 in a programmatic setting.

Diabetes Mellitus and Tuberculosis Treatment Outcomes: Interaction Assessment Between Hyperglycemia and Human Immunodeficiency Virus in the State of Georgia, 2015-2020.

Background: Diabetes mellitus and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) are independent risk factors for poor outcomes among people with tuberculosis (TB). To date, information on the joint impact of diabetes and HIV on TB outcomes is limited. We aimed to estimate (1) the association between hyperglycemia and mortality and (2) the effect of joint exposure to diabetes and HIV on mortality.

An investigation of spatial-temporal patterns and predictions of the coronavirus 2019 pandemic in Colombia, 2020-2021.

Colombia announced the first case of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 on March 6, 2020. Since then, the country has reported a total of 5,002,387 cases and 127,258 deaths as of October 31, 2021. The aggressive transmission dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 motivate an investigation of COVID-19 at the national and regional levels in Colombia.
