Premise: A novel set of nuclear microsatellite markers was developed and characterized for (Myrtaceae) and tested for cross-amplification in the related species .
Methods And Results: Forty-one primer pairs were designed for simple sequence repeat loci, of which 36 successfully amplified and were polymorphic. The number of alleles ranged from two to 14, with an average of 8.
Background: This study evaluates differences in age and presbyopia progression between an ethnic Hispanic and a non-Hispanic patient population.
Methods: Patient records from the Optometric Center of Los Angeles were examined retrospectively from 1998 through 2001. The first part of the study compared ages at onset and progression of presbyopia as a function of ethnicity.
Background: Studies have demonstrated the differential impact of diabetic complications among Hispanic patients. This study profiles 50 patients seen in an urban optometric setting and compares them with a hospital-based ophthalmology clinic in the same community.
Methods: A sample of 50 Hispanic patients with diabetes was selected.
Background: The purpose of this study was to quality the frequency and amount of corneal desquamation from a sodium fluorescein/proparacaine combination (Fluoracaine) as compared with sodium fluorescein/benoxinate combination ophthalmic solution (Fluorox) after Goldmann Applanation Tonometry.
Methods: One drop of Fluoracaine was randomly instilled into one eye and one drop of Fluorox was instilled into the opposite eye of the same patient. Intraocular pressures (IOPs) by GAT and tear break-up times (TBUTs) were taken.
