Developing Organizational Requirements to Standardize Delivery and Improve Quality of Acute Leukemia Care in Ontario.

Acute leukemia is a rapidly progressive cancer of the blood and bone marrow that requires a high degree of complex, specialized, resource-intensive clinical and supportive care. The aging Canadian population has introduced an unprecedented demand on the health care system for a variety of illnesses, including acute leukemia. The purpose of this work was to develop organizational requirements for service providers delivering care for patients aged 18 years and older with acute leukemia within a single-payer health care system in Ontario.

Feasibility of collecting longitudinal patient-reported outcomes in individuals with relapsed or refractory large B-cell lymphoma who received chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CART) therapy.

Purpose: Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CART) therapy has shown clinical efficacy in refractory and relapsed large B-cell lymphomas, but is associated with serious acute and long-term toxicities. To understand the patient perspective, we measured a patient-reported outcome (PRO), specifically, health-related quality of life (HRQoL), at multiple time points over one year.

Methods: This was a prospective feasibility study of a cohort of patients who were eligible for standard of care CART therapy, tisagenlecleucel.

A structured oral chemotherapy teaching tool to improve adherence in adults with multiple myeloma: A pilot randomized controlled trial.

Introduction: Many of the newer treatments for adults with newly-diagnosed and relapsed multiple myeloma (MM) are orally administered. Adherence is a challenge, and little is known about strategies to optimize adherence.

Materials And Methods: Forty-seven patients initiating orally-administered anti-myeloma therapy were enrolled and randomized in a pilot study to receive either standard of care teaching or the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer Oral agent Teaching Tool (MOATT), a structured teaching tool.

First-line therapy, autologous stem-cell transplantation, and post-transplantation maintenance in the management of newly diagnosed mantle cell lymphoma.

Background: In Ontario, no clearly defined standard of care for the management of mantle cell lymphoma (mcl) has been developed, and substantial variability from centre to centre is evident. This guidance document was prompted by the need to harmonize practice in Ontario with respect to first-line, conditioning, and post-transplantation maintenance therapy for patients newly diagnosed with transplantation-eligible mcl.

Methods: The medline and embase databases were systematically searched from January 2013 to January 2020 for evidence, and the best available evidence was used to draft recommendations relevant to first-line therapy, autologous stem-cell transplantation, and post-transplantation maintenance in the management of transplantation-eligible newly diagnosed mcl.
