Peptide-based mediated disruption of N-cadherin-LRP5/6 interaction promotes Wnt signaling and bone formation.

Wnt signaling plays an important role in skeletal biology and diseases. In osteoblasts, we recently showed that the cell-cell adhesion molecule N-cadherin interacts with the Wnt coreceptors LRP5/6 to regulate osteogenesis. In this study we investigated whether targeting the intracellular domain of N-cadherin that interacts with LRP5/6 may promote Wnt signaling and bone formation.

Influence of mobile phones on accuracy of ECG interpretation algorithm in automated external defibrillator.

Background: Automated External Defibrillators (AED) are a recommended tool for out-of-hospital emergency medical services. Mobile phones (GSM) are a potential source of electromagnetic interference which may cause failure of ECG interpretation and subsequent inappropriate action of AED's.

Methods: We evaluated the influence of 900 MHz GSM phones on the accuracy of automatic ECG interpretation with a GSM Mobile Station Tester with adjustable power and mode of transmission (Hewlett-Packard HP5515A), GSM phones (Alcatel, Ericsson, Nokia, Panasonic), ECG simulator (Metron) and four AEDs (Fore Runner-Hewlett-Packard, Heartstart 3000-Laerdal, Cardio-Aid 100-Artema, Heartstream XLT-Agilent).

[Cefamandole for perioperative prophylaxis in total hip alloplasty].

The aim of this paper was to present the use of Cefamandole as one of the elements in perioperative prophylactics in total hip replacement. One hundred patients operated between 1993 and 1995 were followed-up for mean 13.5 months.
