Breaking habits: safety and efficacy of elective electrocardioversion of atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter in the setting of day hospital.

Aim To examine safety and efficiency of electrocardioversion (EC) in elective treatment of atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter in the setting of Day Hospital by determining success rate, frequency of adverse events and possible cost benefit compared to admitting a patient into hospital. Methods This prospective observational cohort study was performed in Day Hospital and in Intensive Care Department of Internal Medicine Clinic, University Clinical Centre Tuzla from January 2019 to December 2022 and included 98 patients with a persistent form of atrial fibrillation (AF) or atrial flutter. The patients who were divided in two groups, 56 hospitalized and 42 patients accessed in Day Hospital.

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on management of surgically treated laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has significantly impacted the treatment of cancer patients, particularly in terms of treatment choices. This study aimed to assess the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the management of surgically treated laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) patients, focusing specifically on changes in treatment modalities. We retrospectively analyzed the data from 102 patients who underwent surgical treatment for LSCC between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2021, at our tertiary medical center.

Examining an internet-delivered intervention for anxiety and depression when delivered as a part of routine care for university students: A phase IV trial.

Background: There has been growing interest in the potential of emerging internet-delivered psychological treatments for supporting the mental health needs of university students. However, no large-scale prospective effectiveness trials examining their real-world potential have been reported.

Objective: The aim of the current study was to evaluate the acceptability and effectiveness of a brief, 5-week, internet-delivered and therapist-guided intervention for anxiety and depression, when delivered as part of routine care by a university counselling service.

Neural androgen receptor overexpression affects cell number in the spinal nucleus of the bulbocavernosus.

The spinal nucleus of the bulbocavernosus (SNB) is a sexually dimorphic neuromuscular system in which the masculinisation of cell number is assumed to depend on the action of perinatal androgen in non-neural targets, whereas the masculinisation of cell size is assumed to depend primarily on the action of adult androgen on SNB cells themselves. To test these hypotheses, we characterised the SNB of Cre/loxP transgenic mice that overexpress androgen receptor (AR) throughout the body (CMV-AR) or in neural tissue only (Nestin-AR). Additionally, we examined the effects of androgen manipulation in male mutants and wild-type (WT) controls.

[PREDICTORS OF POOR BOWEL PREPARATION FOR COLONOSCOPY: A SINGLE-CENTRE PROSPECTIVE STUDY].

Adequate bowel preparation is the key of a successful colonoscopy. The aim of the study was to analyze sociodemographic and clinical characteristics in our population of patients referred for colonoscopy. Bowel cleanness was evaluated using the Boston Bowel Preparation Scale (BBPS) where values 7 were considered a criterion of successful bowel preparation.
