Governance and resilience as entry points for transforming food systems in the countdown to 2030.

Due to complex interactions, changes in any one area of food systems are likely to impact-and possibly depend on-changes in other areas. Here we present the first annual monitoring update of the indicator framework proposed by the Food Systems Countdown Initiative, with new qualitative analysis elucidating interactions across indicators. Since 2000, we find that 20 of 42 indicators with time series have been trending in a desirable direction, indicating modest positive change.

Nutrient-dense foods and diverse diets are important for ensuring adequate nutrition across the life course.

The world faces a global challenge of how to meet the nutritional needs of a diverse global population through diets. This paper defines the relative nutritional needs across each stage of the life cycle to support human health and identifies who is nutritionally vulnerable. Findings in this paper suggest that there are biological nutritional vulnerabilities stemming from high micronutrient needs per calorie in certain phases of the life cycle, particularly for infants and young children, women of reproductive age, pregnant and lactating women, and older adults, particularly older women.

Serious surgical complications of canine cryptorchid castration are associated with surgical approach: a case-control study of 202 dogs.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare a cohort of dogs with serious or life-threatening complications following cryptorchid castration to dogs without complications to identify potential contributing factors to the development of these complications.

Methods: Dogs that had a cryptorchid castration between 2018 and 2022 in 2 hospital networks were retrospectively reviewed in a case-control manner for reported complications. Inclusion criteria for cases and controls consisted of dogs with documented surgical procedures to address a retained testicle within the abdomen and an in-person follow-up visit at least 2 weeks postoperatively.

Global estimation of dietary micronutrient inadequacies: a modelling analysis.

Background: Inadequate micronutrient intakes and related deficiencies are a major challenge to global public health. Analyses over the past 10 years have assessed global micronutrient deficiencies and inadequate nutrient supplies, but there have been no global estimates of inadequate micronutrient intakes. We aimed to estimate the global prevalence of inadequate micronutrient intakes for 15 essential micronutrients and to identify dietary nutrient gaps in specific demographic groups and countries.
