Natural compounds like pterostilbene (PTE) have gained recognition for their various biological activities and potential health benefits. However, challenges related to bioavailability and limited clinical efficacy have prompted efforts to strengthen their therapeutic potential. To meet these challenges, we herein rationally designed and successfully synthesized a pharmaceutical phosphoramidite that allows for the programmable incorporation of PTE into oligonucleotides.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and severe complication after left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation with an incidence of 37%; 13% of which require kidney replacement therapy (KRT). Severe AKI requiring KRT (AKI-KRT) in LVAD patients is associated with high short and long-term mortality compared with AKI without KRT. While kidney function recovery is associated with better outcomes, its incidence is unclear among LVAD patients with severe AKI requiring KRT.

Associations of new-onset atrial fibrillation and severe visual impairment in type 2 diabetes: A multicenter nationwide study.

Background: Many studies have demonstrated an association between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the potential independent contributions of T2DM and AF to the prevalence of visual impairment have not been evaluated.

Aim: To determine whether such an association between T2DM and incident AF with visual impairment exists, and if so, the prevalence and magnitude of this association.
