Unlabelled: Subsequent fracture rates and associated mortality were compared before and after the introduction of fracture liaison service (FLS). In 100,198 women and men, FLS was associated with 13% and 10% lower risk of subsequent fragility fractures and 18% and 15% lower mortality. The study suggests that FLS may prevent fractures.

A hereditary component of breast (BC) and colorectal cancer (CRC) has been described in approximately one-third of these tumor types. BC patients have an increased risk of developing CRC as a second primary tumor and vice versa. Germline genomic variants (NextSeq550, Illumina) were investigated in 24 unrelated BC and/or CRC patients and 7 relatives from 3 index patients.

Bioethanol is a sustainable energy alternative and can contribute to global greenhouse-gas emission reductions by over 60%. Its industrial production faces various bottlenecks, including sub-optimal efficiency resulting from bacteria. Broad-spectrum removal of these contaminants results in negligible gains, suggesting that the process is shaped by ecological interactions within the microbial community.

Background: Beta-blockers are commonly used drugs during pregnancy, especially in women with heart disease, and are regarded as relatively safe although evidence is sparse. Differences between beta-blockers are not well-studied.

Methods: In the Registry of Pregnancy And Cardiac disease (ROPAC, n = 5739), a prospective global registry of pregnancies in women with structural heart disease, perinatal outcomes (small for gestational age (SGA), birth weight, neonatal congenital heart disease (nCHD) and perinatal mortality) were compared between women with and without beta-blocker exposure, and between different beta-blockers.
