Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) is the etiologic agent of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) and transmitted by Ixodes ricinus (Linnaeus, 1758) in Europe. The geographical distribution of I. ricinus in the Palearctic region covers also northern Africa, including northwestern Tunisia.
