An approach to dyslexia is substantiated in terms of a multilevel organization of written speech (gnostico-praxical and symbolical levels). Two dyslexia forms were differentiated in a neuropsychological investigation of 32 children. First had a selective written speech disorder based upon a visual perception deficit.

Fifty-five children with a mild degree of intellectual retardation leading to school disadaptation have been examined, using clinical and neuropsychological methods of investigation. Depending on the underlying disorder, 2 groups of children were identified: with local cortical abnormalities and with the hyperdynamic syndrome. The question is discussed about correlation between dysfunction of definite cerebral structures and disorders of active attention, motor disinhibition, affective and intellectual disorders.

Neuropsychological study of backward schoolchildren with normal intellect revealed the cause of their school disadaptation, namely, a combined cortical disorder expressed in the form of discalculia and disgraphy (Gerstmann's syndrome). Histories of 3 children with this abnormality are described. The authors consider the clinical heterogeneity of the syndrome, its origin, and the use of intact intellectual abilities for adequate medico-pedagogical correction.
