Background: Parietal cell H(+)/K(+) ATPase activation is essential for optimal proton pump inhibitor (PPI) activity. Succinic acid (SA) was shown to induce gastric acid secretion. VECAM is a combination of omeprazole (OMP) and SA.

The diverse selection of targets in the CAPRI experiments provides grounds for determining the limits of our rigid-body docking program MolFit, and for extending it. We find that the sensitivity of MolFit is high, enabling it to produce reasonably accurate docking solutions when the structures undergo moderate local conformation changes upon complex formation or when the docked molecules are modeled. Yet the ranks of these solutions are sometimes too low to meet the requirements of CAPRI assessment.

Olfactory receptors (ORs) constitute the largest gene-family in the vertebrate genome. We have attempted to provide a comprehensive view of the OR universe through diverse tools of bioinformatics and computational biology. Among others, we have constructed the Human Olfactory Receptor Data Exploratorium (HORDE, http://bioportal.

Groups of related genes abound in large eukaryotic genomes. In such 'subgenomes', homology modeling carried out for a few genes will probably have relevance to the entire group. Subgenomes also afford unique ways of determining protein structural information.
