Aim: Diabetes mellitus has been reported to be associated with increased serum levels of ferritin. The basis of this association is unclear. It is also not precisely known whether other iron-related parameters, including hepcidin (the central regulator of systemic iron homeostasis), are affected under these circumstances.

Comparison of venous plasma glucose and capillary whole blood glucose in the diagnosis of gestational diabetes mellitus: a community-based study.

Background: Universal screening for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is advocated in Indian women as they have the highest frequency of GDM among the South Asian population. Of all the screening tests, World Health Organization (WHO) procedure is simple and cost effective; the only disadvantage is that the pregnant woman has to come in the fasting state to undergo oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Hence, we undertook a study to elucidate a test that is casual and reliable to diagnose GDM.
