[The alignment of efficiency studies with clinical guidelines. Where are the opportunities for improvement?].

Objective: To provide insight as well as challenges and opportunities to more effectively align Dutch efficiency research with clinical guidelines.

Design: Evaluation research METHOD: The alignment with existing clinical guidelines regarding medical specialist care was analyzed for 111 efficiency studies funded by the Dutch national health care research programme, and completed between 2018-2023.

Results: Ninety percent of the studies could be linked to a clinical guideline.

[The importance of professional guidelines for Appropriate Care].

'Appropriate Care' forms the cornerstone of the Integral Care Agreement, composed and signed by several Dutch health care organizations and the government. Professional guidelines play an important role to fulfill the four principles of 'Appropriate Care'. Guidelines contribute to value based care by describing effective and efficient treatments.

[How often do medical guidelines refer to articles written in Dutch?].

Objective: For Dutch medical guidelines, Dutch research articles published in the NTvG (NederlandsTijdschriftvoorGeneeskunde) and other medical journals are not searched systematically and are only used sporadically. Using these publications in the process of guideline development can be useful for recommendations regarding the Dutch context of care. In this research, we have investigated how often and in which parts of Dutch guidelines articles published in NTvG are used.

Differential Effects of One Meal per Day in the Evening on Metabolic Health and Physical Performance in Lean Individuals.

Generally, food intake occurs in a three-meal per 24 h fashion with in-between meal snacking. As such, most humans spend more than ∼ 12-16 h per day in the postprandial state. It may be reasoned from an evolutionary point of view, that the human body is physiologically habituated to less frequent meals.

Changes in healthcare utilisation for paediatric tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy in the Netherlands: a population-based study.

Objectives: Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy in children are controversial subjects with large regional variation in surgical rates, partly explained by cultural differences and lack of high-quality evidence on indications for surgery. A quality of care cycle was executed on this topic in the Netherlands. The objective of this study was to estimate changes in healthcare utilisation for paediatric tonsil surgery in the Netherlands.
