Article Synopsis
  • Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common congenital defect, making early detection and analysis of fetal heart development crucial for timely intervention.
  • Effective segmentation of fetal ventricular chambers using ultrasound images is challenging due to speckle noise, leading to potential misinterpretation of results.
  • This study evaluates an automated segmentation technique against manual annotations, finding comparable results with key performance metrics indicating a reliable approach for analyzing fetal cardiac chambers.

Adult Onset Xanthogranulomatous Disease represents an umbrella term encompassing 4 distinct entities with partially overlapping clinicopathological features: adult-onset xanthogranuloma, adult-onset asthma with periocular xanthogranuloma, Erdheim-Chester disease, and necrobiotic xanthogranuloma. They are characterized by a predilection to affect the orbit and ocular adnexa and special histopathological features, in particular infiltrates comprising non-Langerhans-derived foamy histiocytes and Touton giant cells. The appearance of the eyelid lesions is virtually diagnostic, producing readily recognisable diffuse, yellow plaques.

Background And Aims: Preoperative laboratory testing is done to detect abnormalities in the body not detected by clinical examination. Often a battery of tests is advocated as a routine for patients scheduled for low or intermediate risk surgery. This prospective observational study was aimed to assess agreement of the current practice of preoperative laboratory investigations with the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines, and the impact of investigations on patient care and costs.
