Shared Decision-Making on Tobacco Smoking by Older Adults Living in Residential Care Facilities: Care Professionals' Perspectives.

Objectives: Older adults with physical or cognitive disabilities may need to move to residential care facilities (RCFs). Some older adults smoke tobacco and become dependent on their care professionals to continue smoking. Care professionals need to balance an individual resident's quality of life and well-being with the health and safety of all residents and staff.

Criteria-based outpatient scheduling at a nephrology clinic: prospective evaluation of patient pre-assessment and its corresponding adaptive scheduling strategy.

Background: Outpatient Clinics (OCs) are under pressure because of increasing patient volumes and provider shortages. At the same time, many patients with chronic diseases receive routine follow-up consultations that are not always necessary. These patients block access to care for patients that are in actual need for care.

Exploring the gender-sensitive feelings of nurses towards residents with intimate and sexual needs in dementia nursing care.

Introduction: Person-centered care emphasizes close care relations regardless of gender. However, when residents with dementia express intimate or sexual needs, nurses may struggle with their own emotions and need to include personal boundaries.

Methods: 277 (vocational) nurses from 25 Dutch nursing homes completed a survey, including the Feeling Word Checklist for a resident with perceived sexual needs and another for a resident with perceived intimate needs.

Including personal boundaries scale: development and psychometric properties of a measurement for nurses' self-efficacy toward intimate and sexual behavior in dementia care.

Background: Person-centered nursing home care recognizes the intimate and sexual needs of residents with dementia but lacks guidance for nurses to address them while effectively respecting their personal boundaries. The Including Personal Boundaries (IPB) scale was developed to complement clinical and scientific efforts to support both nurse and resident wellbeing.

Methods: Through a co-creative process, theoretical principles, day-to-day experiences, and expert knowledge were integrated into an initial nineteen-item version of the IPB scale.

Process intensification involves the miniaturization of equipment while retaining process throughput and performance. The pharmaceutical industry can benefit from this approach especially during drug product development, where the availability of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) is often limited. It reduces the need for process scale up, as equipment used during product development and commercial production is identical.
