[Renal hemangiosarcoma].

A case of a 44-year woman with renal haemangiosarcoma. Patient suffered from hematuria which lasted for two months and was associated with anemia. Diagnosis was made after surgery by histological associated with examination of the excised tumor.

Influence of the trapidil derivative AR 12463 on serum and tissue lipids and development of aortic lesions during experimental atherosclerosis in rabbits.

Daily administration of the trapidil derivative AR 12463 (20 mg/kg body weight i.p.) to cholesterol-fed rabbits diminished statistically significantly the increase in serum total cholesterol.

[The pharmacology of 13,14-dihydro-PGE1 in comparison with PGE1].

This study investigates the effects of 13,14-Dihydro-PGE1 (PGE0) in comparison to PGE1 on human platelets, human polymorphonuclear granulocytes (PMN) and a number of vessel preparations of different species. The potency of PGE0 in inhibition of platelet and neutrophil activation is similar to PGE1. The vascular action differs.

Antiplatelet, antineutrophil and vasodilating properties of 13,14-dihydro-PGE1 (PGE0)--an in vivo metabolite of PGE1 in man.

The actions of the in vivo metabolite of PGE1, 13,14-dihydro-PGE1 (PGE0), on platelet and neutrophil (PMN) function and vessel tone were studied in vitro. PGE0 inhibited aggregation, ATP release and thromboxane generation by human platelets (IC50 10-100 nmoles/l). The compound also inhibited superoxide anion generation and lysosomal enzyme release from human PMN.

Influence of high density lipoprotein (HDL), prepared from human blood, on prostanoid formation, serum and tissue lipids and development of arteriosclerosis in cholesterol rich fed rabbits.

The i.v. administration of high density lipoprotein (HDL) into cholesterol fed rabbits decreased statistically significantly the serum level of total cholesterol and of low density lipoprotein cholesterol after a feeding period of 8 weeks.

[Changes in the spongiosa density in the femoral head of rabbits in atherosclerosis].

Modulations of spongiosa density in the femoral head of rabbits by atherosclerosis. In a long-term study 31 rabbits (+5 control animals) were fed about 20 weeks on a diet rich in cholesterol. An important observation in this study was, that spongiosa density in the femoral head decreases after cholesterol rich diet in contrast to the control group.

Malignant teratoid medulloepithelioma in a horse.

Enlargement of the left eye, corneal opacification, and blindness were clinical signs of a teratoid medulloepithelioma in a 5-year-old Standardbred mare. Diagnosis was made on histologic examination of the enucleated eye. Medulloepitheliomas are congenital intraocular tumors arising from primitive ciliary body epithelium.

A note on the use of 3-section plates for the estimation of the numbers of bacteria and to obtain isolated colonies in 1 day.

By streaking with an open loop and then swabbing a 4-5 cm2 area on 3-section agar plates, it is possible to obtain isolated colonies and to estimate bacterial densities from 100 to 10(7)/ml on the swabbed area.

Transitional cell carcinoma of the urethra metastatic to the eyes in a dog.

Hyphema and secondary glaucoma were ocular manifestations of disseminated neoplasia in a 4-year-old dog. The dog was euthanatized following enucleation after disseminated intravascular coagulopathy had developed. The histopathologic diagnosis was transitional cell carcinoma of the urethra, with metastasis to the lungs, heart, adrenal gland, and eyes.

Membrana nictitans gland cyst in a dog.

A cyst involving the gland of the 3rd eyelid was removed from an 8-year-old dog. Clinically the circumscribed mass resembled a pigmented neoplasm. Histologically the cyst was multiloculated, with homogeneous eosinophilic periodic acid-Schiff-positive content.

Two-stage Neodymium-YAG laser trabeculotomy.

A preliminary report of a newly devised glaucoma operation is presented. This procedure combines a non-penetrating trabeculectomy with Neodymium:Yittrium-Aluminum-Garnet (Nd:YAG) trabeculotomy. This thus creates a through and through filtration under a scleral flap without actually entering the anterior chamber.

Structural observations on epithelioid and giant cells in experimental autoimmune tubulointerstitial nephritis in guinea pigs.

In order to analyze the role of phagocytic cells in experimental antitubular basement membrane (TBM) antibody-mediated nephritis, Hartley guinea pigs (GP) were immunized with rabbit tubular basement membrane (TBM) in complete Freund's adjuvant and pertussis vaccine. Renal tissue was obtained 10 to 15, 15 to 25, and 25 to 35 days after the start of immunization. Severe renal tubulointerstitial (RTI) nephritis developed in 95% of the animals.
