Introduction: Maintaining an affordable and nutritious diet can be challenging, especially for those living under the conditions of poverty. To fulfill a healthy diet, consumers must make difficult decisions within a complicated food landscape. Decisions must factor information on health and budget constraints, the food supply and pricing options at local grocery stores, and nutrition and portion guidelines provided by government services.

Objective: While the Malone antegrade continence enema (MACE) facilitates bowel movements in patients with spina bifida (SB) and neuropathic bowel, little is known about its long-term use. We aimed to assess long-term MACE use and potential risk factors for disuse.

Methods: All patients with SB who underwent MACE procedures at our institution were retrospectively reviewed.

Objective: To characterize neurologic manifestations in post-hospitalization Neuro-PASC (PNP) and non-hospitalized Neuro-PASC (NNP) patients.

Methods: Prospective study of the first 100 consecutive PNP and 500 NNP patients evaluated at a Neuro-COVID-19 clinic between 5/2020 and 8/2021.

Results: PNP were older than NNP patients (mean 53.

This essay presents three film examples from across the cinemas of Canada which grapple with the politics of sobriety amidst unique cultural contexts: Werewolf (Ashley McKenzie, 2016) broaches the topic of opioid addiction on Cape Breton Island; Love in the Time of Civil War (Rodrigue Jean, 2014) of drug addiction on the streets of Montreal; and The Honour of All (Phil Lucas, 1992), the history of alcoholism on Esk'etemec First Nation in British Columbia. The narratives, aesthetics and modes of production of each film are analysed with an eye towards how they advance a new temperance sensibility that is non-prohibitionist, non-universalist and non-moralist. The three films are positioned within a canon of Canadian films about alcohol and substance misuse, as well as within a broader set of new temperance initiatives found in Canadian society at large.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how the COVID-19 pandemic affected the mental health of Polish citizens and the accessibility of mental health support during this time.
  • A survey of 1,080 adults revealed that 70% reported experiencing mental health issues, with sleep disturbances (63.79%), anxiety (48.79%), and low mood (44.63%) being the most common symptoms.
  • To mitigate these mental health effects, the paper suggests that Polish health decision-makers should create comprehensive, multi-level psychological support services.

Objective: To provide updated guidelines for pharmacologic management of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), focusing on treatment of oligoarthritis, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) arthritis, and systemic JIA with and without macrophage activation syndrome. Recommendations regarding tapering and discontinuing treatment in inactive systemic JIA are also provided.

Methods: We developed clinically relevant Patient/Population, Intervention, Comparison, and Outcomes questions.

Objective: To provide recommendations for the management of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) with a focus on nonpharmacologic therapies, medication monitoring, immunizations, and imaging, irrespective of JIA phenotype.

Methods: We developed clinically relevant Patient/Population, Intervention, Comparison, and Outcomes questions. After conducting a systematic literature review, the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation approach was used to rate the quality of evidence (high, moderate, low, or very low).

Article Synopsis
  • The objective of the guidelines is to recommend management strategies for juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), focusing on non-drug treatments, monitoring medications, immunizations, and imaging, regardless of JIA type.
  • The methodology involved creating specific questions, conducting a literature review, and using a consensus approach with clinicians and caregivers to determine the strength of the recommendations based on the evidence gathered.
  • Key recommendations include using physical and occupational therapy, ensuring a balanced diet, monitoring medications, promoting immunizations, and engaging in shared decision-making; however, the overall quality of the evidence is low, leading to many conditional recommendations.

Background: Due to the unpredictable nature of COVID-19, there is a need to identify patients at high risk of severe course of the disease and a higher mortality rate.

Objective: This study aims to find the correlation between frailty and mortality in adult, hospitalized patients with COVID-19.

Methods: Clinical records of 201 patients who suffered from COVID-19 and were hospitalized between October 2020 and February 2021 were retrospectively analyzed.

Recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) is a promising substitute for natural aggregates and the reuse of this material can benefit construction projects both economically and environmentally. RCA has received great attention in recent years in the form of aggregate as well as a geotechnical material of sand size. Next to RCA, another recycled material, which reduces the waste volume and is a part of the present challenges in civil engineering, is tire waste.

Objectives: Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) is a severe, delayed hypersensitivity reaction (DHR). We observed DRESS to inhibitors of interleukin 1 (IL-1) or IL-6 in a small group of patients with Still's disease with atypical lung disease. We sought to characterise features of patients with Still's disease with DRESS compared with drug-tolerant Still's controls.

Background: Leading causes of unintentional child injury such as poisoning and falls are preventable, and the majority occur in the home. Numerous home safety interventions have been developed and tested to increase safety behaviors; however, no smart phone-based applications (apps) have been developed and evaluated for this purpose. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether a mobile technology-based health behavior change intervention, the Make Safe Happen® app, was an effective tool to increase safety knowledge and safety actions/behaviors for the prevention of child unintentional injuries in and around the home.

Objective: Most SARS-CoV-2-infected individuals never require hospitalization. However, some develop prolonged symptoms. We sought to characterize the spectrum of neurologic manifestations in non-hospitalized Covid-19 "long haulers".

Objective: There is no standardized approach to the treatment of pediatric antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis (AAV). Because of the rarity of pediatric AAV, randomized trials have not been feasible. The present study of the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) was undertaken to establish consensus treatment plans (CTPs) for severe pediatric AAV to enable the future study of comparative effectiveness and safety.

Objectives: Elevation of serum IL-18 in adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) and systemic JIA (sJIA) suggests the role of the inflammasome in these diseases. Gasdermin D is a pore-forming protein playing central roles in inflammasome-mediated inflammation, but its role in rheumatic disease is unknown. We aimed to elucidate the auto-inflammatory mechanisms in AOSD and sJIA.

Humans have a remarkable fidelity for visual long-term memory, and yet the composition of these memories is a longstanding debate in cognitive psychology. While much of the work on long-term memory has focused on processes associated with successful encoding and retrieval, more recent work on visual object recognition has developed a focus on the memorability of specific visual stimuli. Such work is engendering a view of object representation as a hierarchical movement from low-level visual representations to higher level categorical organization of conceptual representations.

The new trends in fuzzy analysis are based on the algebraic approach to fuzzy numbers. The essential idea in such an approach is representing the membership function of a fuzzy number as an element of any square-integrable function space. As a starting point, we consider the Koissi-Shapiro model known as a fuzzy version of the Lee-Carter mortality model, in which triangular membership functions of fuzzy variables are assumed.
