The catalysts synthesized by the hydrothermal method were characterized by X-ray electron absorption fine structure measurements, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and Kelvin Probe techniques. TPSR and steady-state isothermal catalytic tests reveal that the NO turnover frequencies are critically sensitive to the work function of the catalysts, adjusted purposely by doping.

While the START domain is required for TF activity, its presumed role as a lipid sensor is not clear. Here we used tandem affinity purification from Arabidopsis cell cultures to demonstrate that PROTODERMAL FACTOR2 (PDF2), a representative member that controls epidermal differentiation, recruits lysophosphatidylcholines (LysoPCs) in a START-dependent manner.

In this work, two methods of arrival time measurement were compared to measure the arrival time jitter of hard X-ray pulses. The methods were photoelectron streaking by a THz field and a transient refractive index change of a semiconductor.

The photoluminescence is excited at 4.66 eV, well above the band edge, and shows that electron cooling in the conduction band and exciton formation occur in <500 fs, in excellent agreement with theoretical predictions.

In an intracellular environment and during interactions with cellular membranes, it undergoes an instant reduction to lower oxidation states throughout radical states, recognized as the most dangerous factor for cells. The cellular membrane is the most visible cellular organelle in the interior and exterior of a cell.

State-of-the-art time-resolved X-ray solution scattering has emerged in the last decade as a powerful technique to observe solute and solvent motions in real time. However, disentangling solute and solvent dynamics and how they mutually influence each other remains challenging.

The XAS and XES transients obtained in both excitation energy ranges show no evidence for electron transfer processes between photoexcited tryptophan (Trp) and the haem, but rather an ultrafast energy transfer, in agreement with previous ultrafast optical fluorescence and transient absorption studies. The reported ( , 115 (46), 13723-13730) decay times of Trp fluorescence in ferrous (∼350 fs) and ferric (∼700 fs) Cyt c are among the shortest ever reported for Trp in a protein.

The design and construction of spectrometer, usually dedicated to the specific experimental systems, for example synchrotron based setups, need information about the characteristics of the main elements of the spectrometer such as X-ray optics elements, crystals and detectors. Such information can be obtained using Monte-Carlo simulations.

Specifically for metal-oxide structures, the crystal-field interaction determines the shape, strength, and occupancy of electronic orbitals. Consequently, the crystal-field splitting and resulting unoccupied state populations can be foreseen as modeling factors of the photochemical activity.

In order to preserve the broadband nature of the source for spectroscopic experiments, a polycapillary lens was initially chosen as the focusing element. Generally, polycapillary X-ray optics have a narrow photon acceptance angle and small field of view, making alignment complicated and time-consuming.

This work demonstrates how the combination of resonant and non-resonant X-ray emission spectroscopies supplemented with theoretical modelling allows for quantitative analysis of electronic states in 5d transition metal and metal-oxide materials. Application of X-rays provides element selectivity that, in combination with the penetrating properties of hard X-rays, allows determination of the composition of electronic states under working conditions, i.
