Examination of the Corneal Endothelium in Patients With Congenital Aniridia With a PAX6 Mutation Using In Vivo Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy.

Purpose: In PAX6 syndrome, it is still not clear, whether prenatally, parallel to the iris tissue developmental anomaly, there is neural ectodermal, neural crest, or mesodermal cell deposition at the corneal endothelium, affecting endothelial structure and function. In addition, because of the postnatal corneal inflammation and commonly appearing secondary glaucoma, progressive endothelial changes are expected. Our purpose was to study the corneal endothelium in subjects with PAX6 aniridia, using in vivo confocal laser scanning microscopy.

Association of SDF-1-3' Gene A Variant with Diabetic Retinopathy in the Hungarian Population.

We investigated the association between the SDF-1-3' (c801G > A) variant and the development of diabetic macular edema (DME) or proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) in a Hungarian cohort. SDF-1-3' (c801G > A) was genotyped in 103 patients with diabetic retinopathy and 31 age- and sex-matched non-diabetic controls. Central retinal and choroidal thickness was measured by swept-source optical coherence tomography.

Examination of Subbasal Nerve Plexus and Central Corneal Stromal Microstructure in Subjects With Congenital Aniridia, Using Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy.

Purpose: During life up to 70% of aniridia subjects develop aniridia-associated keratopathy (AAK). AAK is characterized by limbal stem cell insufficiency, impaired corneal epithelial cell differentiation and abnormal cell adhesion, which leads to centripetal spreading vascularization, conjunctivalization, and thickening of the cornea. Our aim was to examine the subbasal nerve plexus and central corneal stromal microstructure in subjects with congenital aniridia, using confocal laser scanning microscopy CLSM.

The incidence of breast cancer in elderly patients has increased in the last years, perhaps due to better and earlier diagnostics and a longer life expectancy. Radiotherapy as a local adjuvant treatment after breast surgery, improves local control and overall survival. Due to frailty or comorbidity current guidelines cannot always be applied and the treatment decision-making process involving these older patients often remains the task of the treating physician rather than a fully established tumor board.

Planning, implementation and operation of a personalized patient management system for subjects with first suspect of cancer (OnkoNetwork): system description based on a qualitative study.

Background: OnkoNetwork is a recently established integrated care model with a personalized pathway system to manage patients with first suspect of a solid tumour in secondary care, that evolved as a regional initiative in Hungary. The primary aim of OnkoNetwork is the improvement of clinical outcomes via timely access to quality assured and defragmented healthcare services. The Horizon 2020 funded SELFIE project has selected OnkoNetwork for in-depth qualitative and quantitative evaluation.

Methods: Retrospective cross-sectional study of clinical case notes and database records using a keyword search of a sample of patients with FEP (n = 132) aged between 18 and 65 years presenting from a geographically defined catchment area to a secondary referral psychiatric service over a 4-year period (2010-2013 inclusive). Use of the Modified Overt Aggression Scale to retrospectively assess aggression and violence in the week prior to, and post, presentation with FEP.
