Chemotherapy is a known treatment modality that improves the long-term survival of breast cancer patients. However, due to the resistance to numerous anticancer drugs, alternative chemotherapeutic strategies are required. Regarding antimetabolic drugs, several compounds have proven anticancer properties, such as statins.

Incidence and predictors of heart failure with improved ejection fraction category in a HFrEF patient population.

Aims: The aim of the study was to assess the incidence and predictive factors of the development of heart failure with improved ejection fraction (HFimpEF) category during a 1 year follow-up period in a heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) patient population managed in a heart failure outpatient clinic.

Methods And Results: The study evaluated data from patients enrolled in the Hungarian Heart Failure Registry (HHFR). The incidence and predictive factors of the development of the HFimpEF category after 1 year follow-up were assessed in the group of patients who had HFrEF at baseline.

Magnetic Properties and Magnetocaloric Effect of Polycrystalline and Nano-Manganites PrSrCaMnO (x ≤ 0.3).

Here we report investigations of bulk and nano-sized PrSrCaMnO compounds (x ≤ 0.3). Solid-state reaction was implemented for polycrystalline compounds and a modified sol-gel method was used for nanocrystalline compounds.

Organic Anion Transporting Polypeptide 3A1 (OATP3A1)-Gated Bio-Orthogonal Labeling of Intracellular Proteins.

Organic anion transporting polypeptides (OATPs) were found to readily deliver membrane impermeable, tetrazine bearing fluorescent probes into cells. This feature was explored in OATP3A1 conditioned bio-orthogonal labeling schemes of various intracellular proteins in live cells. Confocal microscopy and super-resolution microscopy (STED) studies have shown that highly specific and efficient staining of the selected intracellular proteins can be achieved with the otherwise non-permeable probes when OATP3A1 is present in the cell membrane of cells.

Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) carrying the gds (corresponding to bs5) gene can prevent the development of bacterial leaf spot disease without HR. However, little is known regarding the development of the resistance mechanism encoded by gds, especially its influence on the bacterium.

The Influence of Zn Substitution on Physical Properties of CoFeO Nanoparticles.

Co1−xZnxFe2O4 nanoparticles (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) have been synthesized via a green sol−gel combustion method. The prepared samples were studied using X-ray diffraction measurements (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman, and magnetic measurements. All samples were found to be single phases and have a cubic Fd-3m structure.

[One-stage bilateral hip arthroplasty].

Introduction: The unilateral total hip arthroplasty is a routine surgical intervention, but in the mean time in several institutions over the world, they perform also bilateral total hip arthroplasty as a one-stage surgery, with different indications. Objective: The aim of this study is to present through our cases and through the international literature the indication criteria, the absolute and relative contraindications, and the potential difficulties of one-stage bilateral hip arthroplasty, showing also the real state of this intervention in our healthcare and financial situation. Method: In this publication, we review - in relation to our five cases - the possibilities of bilateral total hip arthroplasty, their indications and differences compared to the unilateral intervention, and also its financial background.

Paramedical counselling in infertility treatment: its effects on anxio-depressive symptom severity, perceived stress and self-esteem.

Aims: The importance of contributing psychological factors and stress-control in female infertility is well documented, but research on their role in male infertility is scarce. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of a novel paramedical counselling on anxio-depressive symptom severity, perceived stress and self-esteem in infertile men participating in an infertility treatment programme.

Methods: Patients were recruited from clinics of University of Szeged, Hungary between 2019 May and 2020 December, and were sorted into control (n = 51) and experimental (n = 57) groups, where patients in the experimental group received a 5-session paramedical counselling in extension to their medical treatment.

Activated polymorphonuclear derived extracellular vesicles are potential biomarkers of periprosthetic joint infection.

Background: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are considered as crucial players in a wide variety of biological processes. Although their importance in joint diseases or infections has been shown by numerous studies, much less is known about their function in periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). Our aim was to investigate activated polymorphonuclear (PMN)-derived synovial EVs in patients with PJI.

New Insights into the Magnetic Properties of CoFeO@SiO@Au Magnetoplasmonic Nanoparticles.

We report the successful synthesis and a complete magnetic characterization of CoFeO@SiO@Au magnetoplasmonic nanoparticles. The CoFeO magnetic nanoparticles were prepared using the hydrothermal method. A subsequent SiO shell followed by a plasmonic Au shell were deposited on the magnetic core creating magnetoplasmonic nanoparticles with a core-shell architecture.

Bioorthogonal Ligation-Activated Fluorogenic FRET Dyads.

An energy transfer-based signal amplification relay concept enabling transmission of bioorthogonally activatable fluorogenicity of blue-excitable coumarins to yellow/red emitting cyanine frames is presented. Such relay mechanism resulted in improved cyanine fluorogenicities together with increased photostabilities and large apparent Stokes-shifts allowing lower background fluorescence even in no-wash bioorthogonal fluorogenic labeling schemes of intracellular structures in live cells. These energy transfer dyads sharing the same donor moiety together with their parent donor molecule allowed three-color imaging of intracellular targets using one single excitation source with separate emission windows.

Bioorthogonal click-reactions represent ideal means for labeling biomolecules selectively and specifically with suitable small synthetic dyes. Genetic code expansion (GCE) technology enables efficient site-selective installation of bioorthogonal handles onto proteins of interest (POIs). Introduction: The gold standard method for shoulder surgery imaging is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The sensitivity of the conventional MRI for full thickness tears is way above 85%, for partial rotator cuff lesions this number is less than 40%. Diagnostic accuracy is equally low in detecting different variations of anterior labrum lesion and also in injury of the glenohumeral ligaments.

[Effect of the surgical exposure on the early postoperative period after total knee arthroplasty].

Introduction: Total knee arthroplasty has become one of the most successful and safest surgical procedures in orthopedic surgery. Of the many different types of surgical exposure, the most common, so-called medial parapatellar (MP) incision is the cut of the quadriceps tendon, which impairs extensor function. In contrast, subvastus (S) exposure, which spares the extensor apparatus, may promise better healing.

[Testicular adrenal rest tumor in the background of congenital adrenal hyperplasia].

The prevalence of testicular adrenal rest tumours varies in different forms of congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Patients with 21-hydroxilase deficiency usually have bilateral and palpable testicular nodules. Although adrenal rest tumours are well documented in the literature, the diagnosis and management require a multidisciplinary approach: the cooperative work of endocrinologists, urologists, pathologists and radiologists is essential.

[Prevalence of blood transfusion after primary total hip arthroplasty].

Total hip arthroplasty is one of the most common surgical procedures that requires blood transfusion, with the possible risk of significant complications. A retrospective study was performed to analyze the predictors of blood transfusion after primary total hip arthroplasty. We collected the data of 210 consecutive patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty.

Adaptive coping strategies in male infertility, paramedical counselling as a way of support.

: In the last decades, the number of infertile males increased worldwide which gained more focus. The extent to which a person or a couple is able to cope adaptively with the problem of infertility depends on the combined effect of several variables. Our aim was to apply counselling among males suffering from infertility problems.

[The role of multimodal postoperative analgesia after primary hip arthroplasty].

Due to the increasing number of arthroplasties, the number of post-operative hospital days was reduced and the rate of rehabilitation accelerated. For this, proper postoperative analgesia is essential and the multimodal pain relief is an excellent tool. The aim of our study was to compare postoperative functional results, postoperative pain levels, and opioid analgesic needs of patients who received conventional and novel analgesic treatments.

Orodispersible minitablets of enalapril for use in children with heart failure (LENA): Rationale and protocol for a multicentre pharmacokinetic bridging study and follow-up safety study.

Introduction: Treatment of paediatric heart failure is based on paradigms extensively tested in the adult population assuming similar underlying pathophysiological mechanisms. Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI) like enalapril are one of the cornerstones of treatment and commonly used off-label in children. Dose recommendations have been extrapolated from adult experience, but the relationship between dose and pharmacokinetics (PK) in (young) children is insufficiently studied.

[The change of fatty degeneration in the rotator cuff muscles after repair in patients over 65].

Introduction: In the case of rotator cuff tears, the severity of the muscle atrophy and fatty degeneration has an effect on the success of the repair and on the functional outcome after surgery.

Aim: The ability of regeneration reduces with ageing; therefore, the study examined the atrophy and the fatty degeneration after rotator cuff repair in patients over 65.

Method: Eleven patients over 65 years of age were involved whose surgery was performed at the Department of Orthopaedics of Semmelweis University between 2012 and 2015.

Pharmacotherapeutic management of paediatric heart failure and ACE-I use patterns: a European survey.

Objective: To characterise heart failure (HF) maintenance pharmacotherapy for children across Europe and investigate how angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE-I) are used in this setting.

Methods: A Europe-wide web-based survey was conducted between January and May 2015 among European paediatricians dedicated to cardiology.

Results: Out of 200-eligible, 100 physicians representing 100 hospitals in 27 European countries participated.

[Comparative functional outcome of reverse shoulder prostheses implanted on degenerative and oncological indications].

Introduction: Several methods (bone graft, endoprosthesis) are used to reconstruct proximal humerus resections due to primary and metastatic tumours. One of the new procedures is the replacement of the joint surfaces and the removed proximal humerus end with reverse shoulder prosthesis, optionally supplemented with bone implantation (composite procedure) in the hope of achieving better shoulder function.

Aim: The aim of this study was to compare the shoulder function of the patient group operated by the above procedure with reverse prosthesis to a patient group operated by indication of degenerative shoulder disease (rotator cuff arthropathy).

[Men's knowledge of male infertility and the possibilities for supporting therapy: risk factors and individual responses].

In recent decades, the incidence of male infertility has been increasing continuously both worldwide and in Hungary and is becoming a more and more central issue. Millions of men at the reproductive age are affected by male infertility. In addition to the known organic reasons, many life-style and environmental factors can be expected to contribute to this.
