Background/aims: Perioperative management of pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is a constant dilemma and challenging for gastrointestinal surgeons. Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) and delayed gastric emptying (DGE) are of particular concern, and the onset of these conditions indicates a prolonged postoperative stay (POS). In this report, we present a patient in whom acute appendicitis was complicated by SMVT and portal vein thrombosis (PVT). A definitive diagnosis could be made by abdominal contrast-enhanced CT, and acute appendicitis was surgically treated.
