Use of Deferasirox Film-Coated Tablets in Pediatric Patients with Transfusion Dependent Thalassemia: A Single Center Experience.

Thalassemic syndromes are characterized by clinical heterogenicity. For severe disease forms, lifelong blood transfusions remain the mainstay of therapy, while iron overload monitoring and adequate chelation treatment are required in order to ensure effective disease management. Compared to previous chelators, the new deferasirox film-coated tablet (DFX FCT) is considered to offer a more convenient and well-tolerated treatment scheme, aiming at better treatment-related and patient-related outcomes.

HTR for Greek Historical Handwritten Documents.

Offline handwritten text recognition (HTR) for historical documents aims for effective transcription by addressing challenges that originate from the low quality of manuscripts under study as well as from several particularities which are related to the historical period of writing. In this paper, the challenge in HTR is related to a focused goal of the transcription of Greek historical manuscripts that contain several particularities. To this end, in this paper, a convolutional recurrent neural network architecture is proposed that comprises octave convolution and recurrent units which use effective gated mechanisms.

Treatment Individualization Using Pharmacokinetic Studies and Joint Ultrasound Imaging in Pediatric Patients With Hemophilia.

Hemophilia is characterized by bleeding diathesis, primarily affecting the joints. Prophylactic use of missing factor aims at limiting the number of bleeds and, in the long term, the risk of permanent joint damage. However, standard prophylactic regimens are usually applied empirically, not adjusting for variations in bleeding phenotype or drug metabolism.

A comparison between transcutaneous and total serum bilirubin in healthy-term greek neonates with clinical jaundice.

The accuracy of transcutaneous bilirubin meters has been assessed in newborns from various ethnic backgrounds. However, there are limited data on Greek newborns. Our study examined the accuracy of transcutaneous bilirubin measurements in clinically jaundiced healthy-term Greek newborns, using total serum bilirubin as the reference standard, in order to re-evaluate our local guidelines about neonatal jaundice.
