Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to evaluate a teledentistry oral examination protocol at the Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone Correctional Facility over one year to simplify the dental consultation for new detainees.
  • Out of 1,051 detainees, 651 (58.9%) accepted a teledentistry exam, revealing that 88.06% had at least one untreated dental issue and only 1 inmate required no treatment.
  • The protocol led to 44% of those examined being referred for dental emergencies, suggesting that teledentistry can enhance oral health screening and better utilize dental resources in correctional settings.
