Fatal Delayed Cardiac Tamponade Following Atrial Fibrillation Ablation: A Case Report.

Catheter ablation procedure for symptomatic atrial fibrillation is an established treatment. Cardiac tamponade is one of the several complications associated with atrial fibrillation ablation. We present the case of a 60-year-old male with a past medical history of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on hemodialysis, hypotension on midodrine, atrial fibrillation status post-ablation a week prior, and a cerebrovascular accident who presented to the emergency department with complaints of weakness, nausea, vomiting, confusion and some syncopal episodes for the past few days.

Role of the co-stimulatory molecule inducible T-cell co-stimulator ligand (ICOSL) in the progression of experimental metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.

Background And Aims: Inducible T-cell Co-Stimulator (ICOS) present on T-lymphocytes and its ligand ICOSL expressed by myeloid cells play multiple roles in regulating T-cell functions. However, recent evidence indicates that reverse signalling involving ICOSL is also important in directing the differentiation of monocyte-derived cells. In this study, we investigated the involvement of ICOS/ICOSL dyad in modulating macrophage functions during the evolution of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH).

Clinical Presentation and Management of Peripartum Pubic Diastasis.

Background: Symphysis pubis diastasis (SPD) is an uncommon peripartum complication which can have short-term morbidities secondary to pain and restricted movements as well as long-term complications. It is important to diagnose this condition as it causes significant discomfort to the nursing mothers. We present our experience in five patients with SPD who were managed successfully.

Annexin A1 treatment prevents the evolution to fibrosis of experimental nonalcoholic steatohepatitis.

Annexin A1 (AnxA1) is an important effector in the resolution of inflammation which is involved in modulating hepatic inflammation in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). In the present study, we have investigated the possible effects of treatment with AnxA1 for counteracting the progression of experimental NASH. NASH was induced in C57BL/6 mice by feeding methionine-choline deficient (MCD) or Western diets (WDs) and the animals were treated for 4-6 weeks with human recombinant AnxA1 (hrAnxA1; 1 µg, daily IP) or saline once NASH was established.

Inducible T-Cell Costimulator Mediates Lymphocyte/Macrophage Interactions During Liver Repair.

The liver capacity to recover from acute liver injury is a critical factor in the development of acute liver failure (ALF) caused by viral infections, ischemia/reperfusion or drug toxicity. Liver healing requires the switching of pro-inflammatory monocyte-derived macrophages(MoMFs) to a reparative phenotype. However, the mechanisms involved are still incompletely characterized.

Prenatal diagnosis of factor 13 deficiency and its recurrence.

A young third gravida was referred with prenatal diagnosis of factor XIII deficiency at 20 weeks of pregnancy for Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP). Her first baby, who was born by emergency Lower Segment Caesarean Section (LSCS) for fetal distress, had intracranial haemorrhage in the early neonatal period and was investigated elsewhere and diagnosed to have factor XIII deficiency. The child currently has global developmental delay and cerebral palsy.

A Five-Year Review of Ovarian Torsion Cases: Lessons Learnt.

The aim of the study was to analyse risk factors, surgical findings, ovarian salvage rate and histology of ovarian mass. We reviewed 81 cases of surgically proven ovarian torsion retrospectively from June 2014 to June 2019 at a tertiary care referral centre in South India. Demographic, clinical and surgical details of all patients were noted from the medical records.
