Article Synopsis
  • This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis that evaluates surgical outcomes from using a harmonic scalpel (HS) versus traditional hemostasis in neck dissection for head and neck cancers.
  • The analysis included 10 randomized control trials with a total of 558 patients and found that the HS method significantly reduced operative time but had a negligible effect on intraoperative blood loss.
  • The research concludes that while HS improves operative efficiency, it does not show advantages in hospital stay length, drain stay length, or postoperative complications compared to conventional methods, indicating the need for further high-quality studies.
