Gastroparesis (Gp) patients often have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Management of GERD in Gp patients is a challenge. Many studies have shown that gastric peroral endoscopic pyloromyotomy (G-POEM or POP) is moderately effective in reducing nausea and vomiting in patients with Gp.

Relationship between academic procrastination and self-efficacy amongst dental undergraduate students at a public university in Karachi, Pakistan.

Objective: To compare the procrastination and self-efficacy scores among students with respect to the academic year of dental undergraduate programme, and to assess the relationship between self-efficacy and academic procrastination among the students.

Methods: The descriptive study was conducted at Sindh Institute of Oral Health Sciences, Jinnah Sindh Medical University, Karachi, from January to March 2023, and comprised medical students of either gender from all the 4 academic years. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire whose validity was assessed using a pilot study.

Antimicrobial drug resistant features of Mycobacterium tuberculosis associated with treatment failure.

Tuberculosis stands as a prominent cause of mortality in developing countries. The treatment of tuberculosis involves a complex procedure requiring the administration of a panel of at least four antimicrobial drugs for the duration of six months. The occurrence of treatment failure after the completion of a standard treatment course presents a serious medical problem.

Short-term Outcome of Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy Performed by the Same Endoscopist on Achalasia and Nonachalasia Esophageal Motility Disorders.

Background: Peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) is a relatively new but increasingly therapeutic option for achalasia. In recent years, POEM has been used for nonachalasia esophageal motility disorders (NAEMDs), such as diffuse esophageal spasm, esophagogastric junction outlet obstruction, and hypercontractile disorder, with some clinical success. No studies thus far compare the outcomes of these two groups.

Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma (EMC) is a rare clinical entity that affects glandular tissues, most commonly salivary glands. EMC of parapharyngeal space is exceedingly rare. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment with or without chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or both.

A Case Report on Rare Case of Pancreatic Metastasis from Primary Lung Adenocarcinoma: Treated Through a Non-surgical Approach.

Introduction: Most frequent sites of metastasis from lung cancer are the liver, brain and adrenal. Pancreas is an infrequent site of solitary metastasis from the lung primary with limited treatment options. There is insufficient data on the prognosis and optimal management of such cases.

Surgical management of pediatric occipital neuralgia: a single-center experience of an uncommon pathology.

Objective: Occipital neuralgia (ON) is a rare headache disorder characterized by sharp pain in the distribution of the greater occipital nerve (GON), lesser occipital nerve, or third occipital nerve. ON is commonly associated with traumatic injury, and effective identification and diagnosis can be difficult given the infrequent presentation and similarities to other pediatric headache disorders. While GON decompression has been well described in adults for refractory pain, there is a paucity of data in the pediatric population, with no previously published series on ON.

Gastrointestinal (GI) Amyloidosis Presenting As Chronic Diarrhea: A Diagnostic Dilemma.

This case report describes a 63-year-old male patient with a four-year history of chronic diarrhea. Extensive diagnostic investigations failed to reveal a cause. Subsequent upper and lower gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopic procedures revealed the presence of amyloidosis in the GI tract.

Molecular Characterization of Extensively Drug Resistant Serovar Typhi Clinical Isolates from Lahore, Pakistan.

Background: The emergence of extensively drug-resistant (XDR) typhoid in Pakistan has endangered the treatment options available to manage this infection. Third generation cephalosporin were the empiric choice to treat typhoid fever in Pakistan, but acquisition of ESBLs have knocked them out of the arsenal. The current empiric choice is azithromycin which is vulnerable to resistance too.

Anticancer genes (NOXA, PAR-4, TRAIL) are de-regulated in breast cancer patients and can be targeted by using a ribosomal inactivating plant protein (riproximin).

Background: Anticancer genes are an endogenous defense against transformed cells as they impose antineoplastic effects upon ectopic expression. Profiling the expression of these genes is fundamental for exploring their prognostic and therapeutic relevance in cancers. Natural compounds can upregulate anticancer genes in malignant cells and thus be useful for therapeutic purposes.

Gastric peroral endoscopic pyloromyotomy (G-POEM) in patients with refractory gastroparesis: a review.

Gastric peroral endoscopic pyloromyotomy (G-POEM or POP) is an endoscopic therapeutic modality for treatment of refractory gastroparesis. Since the first case reported in 2013, there are more than 200 papers published on G-POEM. In this narrative review, we summarize the short-term and long-term outcomes and review other important studies.

Radiotherapy and Limb-Sparing Surgery in the Management of Localized Soft Tissue Sarcomas: Tertiary Care Center Experience From Pakistan.

Purpose: When combined with radiotherapy, limb salvage surgery is an alternative to amputation. This study sought to determine the limb-sparing treatment outcomes in patients diagnosed with soft tissue extremity sarcomas treated at our institution.

Materials And Methods: All adult patients with extremity soft tissue sarcoma treated with the radical limb salvage strategy at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Canter, Lahore, Pakistan, between January 2017 and December 2019 were retrospectively assessed.

Vaccine Hesitancy and Perceptions of the Community about Polio in High-Risk Areas of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan.

The study aimed to determine the reasons for polio vaccine hesitancy among parents of persistently missed children (PMCs) in the high-risk areas of Karachi, Pakistan. A cross-sectional survey of parents of PMCs was conducted in April 2019 in 34 high-risk union councils of Karachi. PMCs were randomly selected from the polio program database, and further information was collected on a questionnaire by trained staff using face-to-face interviews with parents of PMCs.
