The study focused on patients with mechanical heart valves who underwent non-cardiac surgeries and how their anticoagulation therapy was managed.
It analyzed data from 507 patients over a 12-year period and found that 42 patients had various surgeries, mainly for abdominal issues and included emergency and planned operations.
The conclusions indicated that with proper management, these patients could safely undergo non-cardiac surgeries without significant complications related to their heart valves or anticoagulation.
