Background: Improved knee prosthesis designs have led to an increase in the use of patellofemoral arthroplasty as a primary treatment option in recent times. We report the early results and outcomes of the Zimmer Gender Solutions Patello-Femoral Joint (PFJ) system used to treat isolated patellofemoral osteoarthritis (PFA).

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed and analysed data of patients who underwent PFJ replacement (PFJR) at our institution with a minimum follow-up of 2 years.

Impact of Novel Prebiotic Galacto-Oligosaccharides on Various Biomarkers of Colorectal Cancer in Wister Rats.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the leading causes of cancer deaths around the globe. Bioactive food ingredients such as prebiotics have protective potential in colon cancer. Data on galacto-oligosaccharides (GalOS) against CRC are very limited and GalOS used in this study have β-1,6 and β-1,3 as major glycosidic linkages and, to our best knowledge, were never used before against any cancer treatment.

Prevalence and characteristics of resistant hypertensive patients in an Asian population.

Background: Resistant hypertension is a well-recognized clinical challenge yet there are no reported data on its prevalence in Pakistan. These patients are subjected to a higher risk of developing hypertensive complications. The objective of our study was to evaluate the prevalence and determinants of resistant hypertension in an Asian cohort of hypertensive patients.

A Novel Defibrillation Tool: Percutaneously Delivered, Partially Insulated Epicardial Defibrillation.

Introduction: Epicardial defibrillation systems currently require surgical access. We aimed to develop a percutaneous defibrillation system with partially-insulated epicardial coils to focus electrical energy on the myocardium and prevent or minimize extra-cardiac stimulation.

Methods: We tested 2 prototypes created for percutaneous introduction into the pericardial space via a steerable sheath.

We present here the biosynthesis of AgNps from the aqueous extract of H. thebaica fruit, and monitored through UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The functional group were characterized through ATR-FTIR spectroscopy, the particle size, morphologies and elemental composition of the nanoparticles were investigated by using TEM, FESEM and EDS respectively.

What families have in the emergency tracheostomy kits: Identifying gaps to improve patient safety.

Objective: To evaluate the contents of parent-created emergency tracheostomy kits and identify deficiencies.

Methods: This was an observational study. Data on emergency tracheostomy kits were abstracted for 30 consecutive children who had a tracheostomy tube in situ during an outpatient clinic visit with the Division of Respiratory Medicine and/or the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Hospital for Sick Children between February 1 and October 30, 2016.

The effect of mitral valve surgery on ventricular arrhythmia in patients with bileaflet mitral valve prolapse.

Background: Bileaflet mitral valve prolapse (biMVP) is associated with frequent ventricular ectopy (VE) and malignant ventricular arrhythmia. We examined the effect of mitral valve (MV) surgery on VE burden in biMVP patients.

Methods: We included 32 consecutive patients undergoing MV surgery for mitral regurgitation secondary to biMVP between 1993 and 2012 at Mayo Clinic who had available pre- and post-operative Holter monitoring data.

Effect of microwave heating on the crystallization of glutathione (GSH) tripeptide using the metal-assisted and microwave-accelerated evaporative crystallization (MA-MAEC) technique is reported. GSH crystals were grown from supersaturated solutions of GSH (300-500 mg/mL) on the iCrystal plates with silver nanoparticle films (SNFs) and without SNFs in three different microwave systems operating at 2.45 GHz: conventional (multimode, fixed power at 900W), industrial (monomode, variable power up to 1200 W), and the iCrystal system (monomode, variable power up to 100 W).

Interventional radiologists and surgeons can offer curative treatments for early stage tumours, and locoregional therapies can be provided resulting in longer survival times. Purpose: Congenital central hypoventilation syndrome (CCHS) is characterized by ventilatory insensitivity to hypercapnia and hypoxemia during sleep and/or wakefulness. The biological performance of the engineered nanovesicle complexes were studied both in vitro and in vivo and compared with cationic liposome-based lipopolyplexes.

Effect of Template Reporting of Brain MRIs for Multiple Sclerosis on Report Thoroughness and Neurologist-Rated Quality: Results of a Prospective Quality Improvement Project.

Purpose: To assess the impact of structured reporting templates on the objective and subjective quality of radiology reports for brain MRIs in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Methods: A HIPAA-compliant prospective quality improvement initiative was undertaken to develop and implement a 12-item structured reporting template for brain MRI examinations in patients with known or suspected MS based on published guidelines. Reports created 1 year before implementing the template served as the baseline.

Quantifying Intracranial Plaque Permeability with Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced MRI: A Pilot Study.

Background And Purpose: Intracranial atherosclerotic disease plaque hyperintensity and/or gadolinium contrast enhancement have been studied as imaging biomarkers of acutely symptomatic ischemic presentations using single static MR imaging measurements. However, the value in modeling the dynamics of intracranial plaque permeability has yet to be evaluated. The purpose of this study was to use dynamic contrast-enhanced MR imaging to quantify the contrast permeability of intracranial atherosclerotic disease plaques in symptomatic patients and to compare these parameters against existing markers of plaque volatility using black-blood MR imaging pulse sequences.

Factors Associated with Changes in Invasive and Noninvasive Positive Airway Pressure Therapy Settings during Pediatric Polysomnograms.

Study Objectives: Our aim was to identify clinical predictors associated with changes in settings for pediatric invasive and noninvasive positive airway pressure therapy, which could help inform the allocation of limited polysomnogram (PSG) resources.

Methods: A retrospective review was conducted in children who underwent one or more PSGs for technology titration. Children were included if they were using continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy, bilevel positive airway pressure (BPAP) therapy, or invasive positive pressure ventilation (IPPV) the night of the PSG.
