C-terminal α-amidated peptides are attractive therapeutic targets, but preparative methods to access amidated pharmaceuticals are limited both on lab and manufacturing-scale. Here we report a straightforward and scalable approach to the C-terminal α-amidation of peptides and proteins from cysteine-extended polypeptide precursors. This amidation protocol consists of three highly efficient steps: 1) selective cysteine thiol substitution with a photolabel, 2) photoinduced decarboxylative elimination and 3) enamide cleavage by simple acidolysis or inverse electron demand Diels-Alder reaction.

Objective: The high cost of novel glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA) class agents often limits access and creates barriers to care. This real-world study evaluated the efficacy of older-generation generic antiobesity medications (AOMs) for weight maintenance after 1 year of GLP-1 RA therapy in patients who had achieved successful weight loss.

Methods: We prospectively followed patients (N = 105) who had completed 12 months of therapy and were part of a "medical weight loss bundle," which included 12 months of GLP-1 RA therapy followed by 6 months of transition care.

Purpose: Proactive nutrition screening and intervention is associated with improved outcomes for patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC). To better optimize nutrition amongst our PDAC population, we implemented systematic malnutrition screening in the Johns Hopkins pancreas multidisciplinary clinic (PMDC) and assessed the effectiveness of our nutrition referral system.

Methods: This was a single institution prospective study of patients seen in the PMDC, screened for malnutrition using the Malnutrition Screening Tool (MST) (score range=0 to 5, score > 2 indicates risk of malnutrition), and offered referrals to the oncology dietitian.

Main group organometallic compounds can exhibit unusual optical properties arising from hybrid σ,π-conjugation. While linear silanes are extensively studied, the shortage of methods for the controlled synthesis of well-defined cyclic materials has precluded the study of cyclic conjugation. Herein we report that Ru-catalyzed addition of cyclosilanes to aryl acetylenes (hydrosilylation) proceeds with high chemoselectivity, regioselectivity, and diastereoselectivity, affording complex organosilanes that absorb visible light.
