In this study, the potential neuroprotective ability of coriander seeds (Coriandrum sativum L.) ethanolic extract (CSES) as a neuroprotectant agent in the brains of high-fat diet-induced obese rats was analyzed. The study investigated how CSES impacts oxidative stress markers (i.

The proportion of elderly individuals is rising globally, and data have shown that as high as 8% of the elderly community suffer from malnutrition. Protein energy malnutrition has shown to elevate morbidity and mortality risk in the elderly; therefore, protein and energy supplement are needed for the elderly populations to create healthy conditions. This chapter describes about general structure of protein, protein turnover, amino acid metabolism including metabolism in the elderly, protein change in aging, supplementation of amino acid as well as vitamin and mineral for the elderly.

Background: Recent advancement on experiment concluded that etiology of pre-eclampsia (PE) could be explained by the "two-stage" theory. The theory of which explained that pre-eclampsia occurs due to abnormalities in spiral arteries development and release of inflammatory response. Failure of spiral arteries development, the lesion of damage could be due to ischemia-reperfusion or hypoxia-reoxygenation.

Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of avidin treatment on cell viability, proliferation and cyclin D1 expression in colorectal cancer cells HT-29.

Methods: Colorectal cancer cell line HT-29 incubated with 50, 100, 150, and 200 μg/mL of avidin concentration during 24, 48, and 72 hours, then the cell viability and proliferation   were analyzed. Each avidin concentration was conducted together with HT-29 cell line without avidin treatment as a control group.

Background: In a hypoxic state, fatty acid breakdown reaction may be inhibited due to a lack of oxygen. It is likely that the fatty acids will be stored as triacylglycerol. The aim of this study was to analyse triacylglycerol synthesis in the liver after intermittent hypobaric hypoxia (HH) exposures.

Article Synopsis
  • Obesity contributes to FGF21 resistance, impairing the ability of adipose tissue to regulate body heat and fat, primarily through increased levels of miR-34a.
  • The study investigates the effects of Hibiscus sabdariffa Linn. extract (HSE) on miR-34a and FGF21 receptor expression in white adipose tissue using a rat model of diet-induced obesity.
  • Results indicate that HSE can restore miR-34a and FGFR1 receptor levels to those similar to healthy controls, suggesting it has potential to combat FGF21 resistance in obesity.
