Background: Vaccination coverage against COVID-19 and influenza among Australian aged care residents remains suboptimal, placing this vulnerable population at heightened risk of severe illness, frailty, and death. Health care professionals' recommendations significantly influence vaccination uptake. Aged care staff, with their unique proximity to residents, play a pivotal role in promoting vaccination.

Devices based on arrays of interconnected magnetic nano-rings with emergent magnetization dynamics have recently been proposed for use in reservoir computing applications, but for them to be computationally useful it must be possible to optimise their dynamical responses. Here, we use a phenomenological model to demonstrate that such reservoirs can be optimised for classification tasks by tuning hyperparameters that control the scaling and input-rate of data into the system using rotating magnetic fields. We use task-independent metrics to assess the rings' computational capabilities at each set of these hyperparameters and show how these metrics correlate directly to performance in spoken and written digit recognition tasks.

The magnetisation reversal behaviour as a function of composition was studied in low rare earth concentration alloys. 30 nm thick rare earth:transition-metal films of composition GdCo, GdFe and Gd(CoFe) were prepared by magnetron sputtering, where x ranged from 4 to 13 atomic%. Magnetisation behaviour was studied using MOKE and Hall hysteresis measurements.

The chemical composition of a solvent extract of Hoodia gordonii termed 'H.gordonii extract' has been characterised by hyphenated chromatographic methods and traditional analytical techniques. The extract consists of a mixture of steroid glycosides, fatty acids, plant sterols and polar organic material.

Objective: Surgeons' vigilance regarding patient condition was assessed using eye-tracking techniques during a simulated laparoscopic procedure.

Methods: Surgeons were required to perform a partial cholecystectomy in a virtual reality trainer (SurgicalSim; METI Inc, Sarasota, FL) while wearing a lightweight head-mounted eye-tracker (Locarna systems Inc, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada). Half of the patients were preprogrammed to present a mildly unstable cardiac condition during the procedure.

We introduce eSeeTrack, an eye-tracking visualization prototype that facilitates exploration and comparison of sequential gaze orderings in a static or a dynamic scene. It extends current eye-tracking data visualizations by extracting patterns of sequential gaze orderings, displaying these patterns in a way that does not depend on the number of fixations on a scene, and enabling users to compare patterns from two or more sets of eye-gaze data. Extracting such patterns was very difficult with previous visualization techniques.

Spatialization displays use a geographic metaphor to arrange non-spatial data. For example, spatializations are commonly applied to document collections so that document themes appear as geographic features such as hills. Many common spatialization interfaces use a 3-D landscape metaphor to present data.

We examine a crucial aspect of a tool intended to support designing for feel: the ability of an objective physical-model identification method to capture perceptually relevant parameters, relative to human identification performance. The feel of manual controls, such as knobs, sliders, and buttons, becomes critical when these controls are used in certain settings. Appropriate feel enables designers to create consistent control behaviors that lead to improved usability and safety.

High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-UV and HPLC-Mass Spectrometry (MS) methods were developed for the quantitative analysis of the family of Hoodia gordonii steroid glycosides with appetite suppressing properties in dried plant material, in purified and enriched extracts and in various prototype food-products fortified with H. gordonii extracts. For solid materials, e.

Article Synopsis
  • Graduate education in nursing and midwifery has been increasingly recognized as important, with a push for more degree programs to enhance professional competence.
  • The study aimed to determine if nursing and midwifery degrees provide "added value" to clinical practice beyond what is taught in diploma programs, focusing on critical thinking skills as a distinguishing factor.
  • Results showed significant differences in skill and attribute ratings between graduates and diplomates, supporting the idea that a degree positively impacts clinical practice outcomes.
