Article Synopsis
  • - The study analyzes the effects of induction immunosuppression using basiliximab on 475 heart transplant recipients from 2003-2020, comparing outcomes between those who received basiliximab (BG) and those who did not (NBG).
  • - Results show that while basiliximab is linked to a lower rate of acute cellular rejection (ACR), it corresponds with higher instances of antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) and cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV), with no significant difference in infections or cancer risk between the two groups.
  • - The findings suggest that although basiliximab is effective in reducing ACR, it may lead to increased mortality and other complications, warranting

Bortezomib (BTZ) is a proteasome inhibitor (PI) used for the treatment of several hematologic malignancies, including multiple myeloma (MM), and various lymphomas including mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). It acts via disruption of the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway which plays a major role in regulating cell cycle and inhibiting synthesis of nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-KB). The ubiquitin-proteasome pathway is also important in maintaining the integral signaling in cardiac myocytes.

The left atrial to femoral artery bypass (LAFAB) system is a mechanical circulatory support (MCS) device used in cardiogenic shock (CS) that bypasses the left ventricle by draining blood from the left atrium (LA) and returning it to the systemic arterial circulation via the femoral artery. It can provide flows ranging from 2.5-5 L/min depending on the size of the cannula.
