Addiction is considered a chronic disorder that requires long-term treatment. Early identification of predictors of outcome may enable better and early adjustment of treatment. Daily fluctuations of craving have been shown to predict substance use within hours, making it a major target for treatment.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Patients treated for Substance Use Disorders exhibit highly fluctuating patterns of craving that could reveal novel prognostic markers of use. Accordingly, we 1) measured fluctuations within intensively repeated measures of craving and 2) linked fluctuations of craving to connectivity indices within resting-state (rs) brain regions to assess their relation to use among patients undergoing treatment for Alcohol, Tobacco and Cannabis Use Disorders.
Method: Participants -64 individuals with SUD for tobacco, alcohol, or cannabis and 35 healthy controls-completed a week of Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) during which they reported craving intensity and substance use five times daily.
Schizophrenia is characterized by the most salient medication adherence problems among severe mental disorders, but limited prospective data are available to predict and improve adherence in this population. This investigation aims to identify predictors of medication adherence over a 1-year period in a large national cohort using clustering analysis. Outpatients were recruited from ten Schizophrenia Expert Centers and were evaluated with a day-long standardized battery including clinician and patient-rated medication adherence measures.

Background: Substance use disorders (SUDs) are major contributors to morbidity and mortality rates worldwide, and this global burden is attributable in large part to the chronic nature of these conditions. Increased mood variability might represent a form of emotional dysregulation that may have particular significance for the risk of relapse in SUD, independent of mood severity or diagnostic status. However, the neural biomarkers that underlie mood variability remain poorly understood.

Multimodal sensory integration is pivotal to experiencing one's own body as a coherent visual "self" representation is formed and maintained by matching felt and observed sensorimotor experiences in the mirror. While difficulties in individual facial identity recognition and in both self-referential cognition and empathy are frequently reported in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), studying the effect of multimodal sensory stimulation in this population is of relevant interest.

The main objectives of this study were to examine whether executive capacities moderate the magnitude of the craving-substance use relationship, and if this influence is correlated with the functional connectivity of cerebral networks, combining rsfMRI examinations and ecological momentary assessment (EMA). Eighty-six patients beginning outpatient treatment for alcohol, tobacco or cannabis addiction and 40 healthy controls completed neuropsychological tests followed by EMA to collect real-time data on craving.

We explore the neural traces of confidence in learning and their variability by: (1) targeting rs-networks in which functional connectivity (FC) modifications induced by a learning task were associated either with the participant's performance or confidence in learning; and (2) investigating the links between FC changes and psychological temperament. Thirty healthy individuals underwent neuropsychological and psychometric evaluations as well as rs-fMRI scans before and after a visuomotor associative learning task.

Objective: To examine co-occurrence and familial aggregation of CUD and mood disorder subtypes.
Objectives: The present study sought to examine mental health problems among nursing home workers in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, to investigate COVID-19-related fears, and to identify prepandemic factors associated with current mental health issues.
Design: A cross-sectional, online survey was used.
Setting And Participants: All employees among 6 nursing homes in southwestern France (N = 455) were solicited between November, 2020 and June, 2021.
Background: Research suggests that physical activity (PA) has both acute and chronic beneficial effects on cognitive function in laboratory settings and under supervised conditions. Mobile health technologies make it possible to reliably measure PA and cognition in free-living environments, thus increasing generalizability and reach. Research is needed to determine whether the benefits of PA on cognitive function extend from the laboratory to real-world contexts.

One hypothesis to explain this synergy is the impact of intrusive memories on craving which, in turn, increases the risk of relapse among patients with substance use disorders. The aim of this systematic review is to examine this possibility by assessing the impact of PTSD and its symptoms on craving among dual disorder patients.

There are many people without access to care because of economic, geographic, and cultural barriers, as well as the limited availability of clinical experts who could help advance our understanding and treatment of mental health.
Objective: This study aims to create an open, configurable software platform to build clinical measures, mobile assessments, tasks, and interventions without programming expertise.

Deficits in cognitive functions are frequent in schizophrenia and are often conceptualized as stable characteristics of this disorder. However, cognitive capacities may fluctuate over the course of a day and it is unknown if such variation may be linked to the dynamic expression of psychotic symptoms. This investigation used Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) to provide mobile tests of cognitive functions and positive symptoms in real time.

Daily life routines may increase feelings of security for some individuals confronted with age-related health concerns, but little information is available concerning their role following stroke. The aim of this investigation was to examine the association of depression and other psychological variables at hospitalization for stroke and behavioral routines and mood symptoms three months later using Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA).

Methods: During the first country-wide lockdown imposed in France, a Covid-19 module was added to the French portion of the ongoing World Mental Health International college student survey.
In most countries, social or behavioural interventions are recommended for autism. However, in France, psychoanalysis is still used, despite objections by patients, families and mental health experts. Supporters of psychoanalysis maintain that the choice of therapeutic approach is a matter of cultural preference, and that objections to psychoanalysis arise from misunderstandings.

Momentary emotional experiences may influence how much time is spent outside of the home. We evaluated the associations between emotional experiences in relation to life-space among people with schizophrenia compared to healthy controls (HCs).

This study presents essential information concerning the feasibility and validity of EMA in patients with acute coronary syndrome.
Methods: Four months after a first-ever acute coronary syndrome, 47 patients completed EMA five times a day for seven consecutive days concerning their current activities, mood and perceived negativity or positivity of daily events.
Objective: We developed a mobile cognitive test of verbal learning and memory, the mobile verbal learning test (mVLT), to allow for brief, repeated and portable delivery of a 12-item list learning test through a smartphone. This study examined the psychometric properties of the mVLT among older persons with and without human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
Methods: Sixty-eight persons with HIV and 36 HIV-negative individuals (aged 50-74) completed three trials of the mVLT on a smartphone once daily for 14 days.
Background: Daily activities have been associated with neurocognitive performance. However, much of this research has used in-person neuropsychological testing that requires participants to travel to a laboratory or clinic, which may not always be feasible and does not allow for the examination of real-time relationships between cognition and behavior. Thus, there is a need to understand the real-time relationship between activities in the real world and neurocognitive functioning to improve tracking of symptoms or disease states and aid in the early identification of neurocognitive deficits among at-risk individuals.

Much of this difficulty may be attributed to ignorance of the prevalence, severity and economic burden associated with these conditions, as well as to enduring inequalities in how physical illness is treated in comparison to mental illness. As mental disorders are now the single greatest cause of disability, we have reached the point where the tremendous personal and societal costs associated with these conditions can no longer be ignored.

Rapidly accumulating data from mobile assessments are facilitating our ability to track patterns of emotions, behaviors, biologic rhythms, and their contextual influences in real time. These approaches have been widely applied to study the core features, traits, changes in states, and the impact of treatments in bipolar disorder (BD). This paper reviews recent evidence on the application of both passive and active mobile technologies to gain insight into the role of the circadian system and patterns of sleep and motor activity in people with BD.

Autobiographical memory (AM) could be involved in cognitive reactivity, and improved with MBCT training. This study aims to investigate the effect of MBCT for bipolar patients on depressive and anxious symptoms, dysfunctional attitudes and AM, and the predictive versus mediating role of AM in the impact of MBCT on clinical symptoms.
