The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants, especially Beta and Delta, has raised concerns about the reduced protection from previous infection or vaccination based on the original Wuhan-Hu-1 (D614) virus. To identify promising regimens for inducing neutralizing titers towards new variants, we evaluated monovalent and bivalent mRNA vaccines either as primary vaccination or as a booster in nonhuman primates (NHPs). Two mRNA vaccines, D614-based MRT5500 and Beta-based MRT5500β, tested in sequential regimens or as a bivalent combination in naïve NHPs produced modest neutralizing titers to heterologous variants.

Compared to conventional approaches, this vaccine modality promises comparable potency while substantially accelerating the pace of development and deployment of vaccine doses. Already demonstrated successfully for single antigen vaccines such as for COVID-19, this technology could be optimized for complex multi-antigen vaccines.

However, there remains a need for additional effective vaccines to meet the global demand and address the potential new viral variants. mRNA technologies offer an expeditious path alternative to traditional vaccine approaches.

We sought to identify patient and primary care provider (PCP) barriers, facilitators, as well as strategies to increase teleophthalmology use.
Design: We conducted standardised open-ended, individual interviews and analysed the transcripts using both inductive and directed content analysis to identify barriers and facilitators to teleophthalmology use.
Objective: Diabetic retinopathy remains the leading cause of blindness among working-age U.S. adults largely due to low screening rates.

Purpose Of Review: Diabetic retinopathy remains the leading cause of blindness among working-age US adults even though timely screening and treatment prevent 90% of blindness. We summarize current knowledge and perspectives to better understand why diabetic eye screening rates remain low and future directions towards preventing blindness from diabetes.
Recent Findings: Significant advancements in the past 10 years include primary care and patient-oriented interventions as well as the use of teleophthalmology.
Background: Robotic pyelolithotomy (RPL) and robotic nephrolithotomy (RNL) may be utilized for treating kidney stones as an alternative to percutaneous nephrolithotomy or flexible ureteroscopy.
Objective: To describe the techniques of RPL and RNL, and present multi-center outcome data for patients undergoing these procedures.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This study was a retrospective analysis of 27 patients undergoing RPL and RNL at five tertiary academic institutions between 2008 and 2014.
We have previously described a mouse model of human posterior polymorphous corneal dystrophy (PPCD) and localized the causative mutation to a 6.2 Mbp region of chromosome 2, termed Ppcd1. We now show that the gene rearrangement linked to mouse Ppcd1 is a 3.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the case log of a single surgeon, from August 1996 to August 2014, to identify all patients undergoing a surgical procedure after failed pyeloplasty.
Introduction: While percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is often the procedure of choice for renal and ureteral calculi in transplant kidneys, retrograde ureteroscopy (URS) is a less frequently applied but excellent option if stone burden is small. We retrospectively examined nine surgical cases performed in seven patients in what appears to be the largest single institutional series reported to date.
Materials And Methods: Seven patients underwent nine retrograde URS between June of 2009 and September of 2013, by two endourologists.
Epilepsy is a costly diagnosis, with emergency room (ER) visits and hospital admissions comprising a large portion of total direct cost. An educational intervention to decrease the number of ER visits was implemented on outpatients with epilepsy, using educational handouts and DVD. The number of ER visits declined significantly in the four months following intervention compared with the preceding four months.

In humans, the NCF2 gene is expressed as multiple NCF2 variants that differ in the 5'-untranslated region (5'-UTR). Previously, we reported the presence of four NCF2 5'-UTR mRNA variants (designated as NCF2 exon 1, intron 1a, intron 1b and intron 1c).

Sevelamer hydrochloride is indicated for the control of hyperphosphatemia in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The binding parameter constants of sevelamer hydrochloride were determined using high performance capillary electrophoresis (HPCE) and the Langmuir approximation for three different dosage forms at pH 7.

Clinically, HS varies significantly even among individuals with identical gene defects, illustrating the profound effects of genetic background on disease severity. We exploited a new spontaneous mouse model, wan, which arose on the inbred C3H/HeJ strain, to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) that modify the HS phenotype.

We tested the variation of these processes over seasonal time in a natural temperate zone grassland, a field site characterized by strong seasonal changes in abiotic and biotic conditions. Separate factorial experiments manipulating nutrients and cursorial spiders were performed in the wet and dry seasons.

Although the systemic administration of a number of different gene products has been shown to result in the inhibition of angiogenesis and tumor growth in different animal tumor models, the relative potency of those gene products has not been studied rigorously. To address this issue, recombinant adenoviruses encoding angiostatin, endostatin, and the ligand-binding ectodomains of the vascular endothelial growth factor receptors Flk1, Flt1, and neuropilin were generated and used to systemically deliver the different gene products in several different preexisting murine tumor models.
