Background: Community health workers (CHWs) are vital yet often invisible contributors to care coordination, health equity, and public health (PH) in medically underserved areas. The Atlanta Regional Community Health Workforce Advancement (ARCHWAy) Program leverages cross-sector partners to increase the number of CHWs on integrated care teams in metro Atlanta in the United States.

Leveraging high performance computing, remote sensing, geographic data science, machine learning, and computer vision, Oak Ridge National Laboratory has partnered with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to build a baseline structure inventory covering the US and its territories to support disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. The dataset contains more than 125 million structures with critical attribution, and is ready to be used by federal agencies, local government and first responders to accelerate on-the-ground response to disasters, further identify vulnerable areas, and develop strategies to enhance the resilience of critical structures and communities. Method: One hundred eighty-two nursing students, in groups of 5, participated in a 75-min emergency preparedness disaster simulation. A mixed methods design was used to evaluate students' knowledge and confidence in disaster preparedness, and satisfaction with the simulation.

Does Green Really Mean Go? Increasing the Fraction of Green Photons Promotes Growth of Tomato but Not Lettuce or Cucumber.

The photon flux in the green wavelength region is relatively enriched in shade and the photon flux in the blue region is selectively filtered. In sole source lighting environments, increasing the fraction of blue typically decreases stem elongation and leaf expansion, and smaller leaves reduce photon capture and yield. Photons in the green region reverse these blue reductions through the photoreceptor cryptochrome in but studies in other species have not consistently shown the benefits of photons in the green region on leaf expansion and growth.

Clinicians have access to limited pharmacologic interventions to help slow the disease progression. Nonpharmacologic interventions are vital in managing dyspnea for these individuals, which is one of the most frequently reported factors that negatively impacts health-related quality of life.

In response to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, many laboratories are involved in research supporting SARS-CoV-2 vaccine development and clinical trials. Flow cytometry laboratories will be responsible for a large part of this effort by sorting unfixed antigen-specific lymphocytes. Therefore, it is critical and timely that we have an understanding of risk assessment and established procedures of infectious cell sorting.

Effects of ramped-frequency thalamic deep brain stimulation on tremor and activity of modeled neurons.

Objective: We conducted intraoperative measurements of tremor to quantify the effects of temporally patterned ramped-frequency DBS trains on tremor.

Methods: Seven patterns of stimulation were tested in nine subjects with thalamic DBS for essential tremor: stimulation 'off', three ramped-frequency stimulation (RFS) trains from 130 → 50 Hz, 130 → 60 Hz, and 235 → 90 Hz, and three constant frequency stimulation (CFS) trains at 72, 82, and 130 Hz. The same patterns were applied to a computational model of the thalamic neural network.

Background: Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) is a presurgical planning technique used to localize functional cortex so as to maximize resection of diseased tissue and avoid viable tissue. In this retrospective study, we examined differences in morbidity and mortality of brain tumor patients who received preoperative fMRI in comparison to those who did not.

Methods: Brain tumor patients (=206) were selected from a retrospective review of neurosurgical case logs from 2001-2009 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) of the phylum Thaumarchaeota are widespread in marine and terrestrial habitats, playing a major role in the global nitrogen cycle. However, their evolutionary history remains unexplored, which limits our understanding of their adaptation mechanisms. Here, our comprehensive phylogenomic tree of Thaumarchaeota supports three sequential events: origin of AOA from terrestrial non-AOA ancestors, colonization of the shallow ocean, and expansion to the deep ocean.
