A highly efficient hole-selective passivating contact remains the crucial step required to increase the efficiency of polysilicon-based Si solar cells. The future development of solar modules depends on a device structure that can complement the electron-selective tunnel oxide passivating contact with an equivalent hole-selective contact. The reactivity of LiLaZrTaO (LLZTO) solid electrolytes to form lithio-phobic species such as LiCO on their surface when exposed to trace amounts of HO and CO limits the progress of LLZTO-based solid-state batteries. Various treatments, such as annealing LLZTO within a glovebox or acid etching, aim at removing the surface contaminants, but a comprehensive understanding of the evolving LLZTO surface chemistry during and after these treatments is lacking. Here, glovebox-like HO and CO conditions were recreated in a near ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy chamber to analyze the LLZTO surface under realistic conditions.

A systematic mechanistic review was performed to determine mechanistic evidence for curcumin on pro-inflammatory matrix metalloproteinases and Osteoarthritis to understand the underlying pathophysiology, and to evaluate available human intervention evidence to inform clinical decision making. The systematic literature search was performed in 3 tranches (reviews, mechanistic, intervention studies) using PubMed, with no date limitations and using specific search terms. 65 out of 393 screened papers were accepted based on detailed inclusion and exclusion criteria.

Background: Elevated serum titanium levels have been found in patients with early onset scoliosis (EOS) treated with traditional growing rods (TGR), magnetically controlled growing rods (MCGR), and vertical expandable prosthetic titanium rib (VEPTR). No studies have investigated whether serum titanium remains persistently elevated and if titanium is excreted. In recent years, 'vulnerability' has been getting more traction in theoretical, professional and popular spaces as an alternative or complement to the concept of risk. As a group of science and technology studies scholars with different disciplinary orientations yet a shared concern with biomedicine, self and society, we investigate how vulnerability has become a salient and even dominant idiom for discussing disease and disease risk. The solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) that forms on Li-ion battery anodes is critical to their long-term performance, however observing SEI formation processes at the buried electrode-electrolyte interface is a significant challenge. Here we show that operando soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy in total electron yield mode can resolve the chemical evolution of the SEI during electrochemical formation in a Li-ion cell, with nm-scale interface sensitivity. O, F, and Si K-edge spectra, acquired as a function of potential, reveal when key reactions occur on high-capacity amorphous Si anodes cycled with and without fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC).

We report on the electronic and magnetic properties of superconductor-ferromagnet heterostructures fabricated by electron beam evaporation on to unheated thermally oxidised Si substrates. Polycrystalline Nb thin films (5 to 50 nm thick) were shown to possess reliably high superconducting critical temperatures ([Formula: see text]), which correlate well with the residual resistivity ratio (RRR) of the film. The key charge transfer processes in electrochemical energy storage devices occur at electrode-electrolyte interfaces, which are typically buried, making it challenging to access their interfacial chemistry. In the case of Li-ion batteries, metallic Li electrodes hold promise for increasing energy and power densities and, when used in conjunction with solid electrolytes, the adverse safety implications associated with dendrite formation in organic liquid electrolytes can potentially be overcome. To better understand the stability of solid electrolytes when in contact with alkali metals and the reactions that occur, here we consider the deposition of thin (∼10 nm) alkali metal films onto solid electrolyte surfaces, where the metal is thin enough that X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy can probe the buried electrode-electrolyte interface.

Purpose: A previous study showed that patients with neuromuscular scoliosis who underwent fusion to L5 had excellent coronal curve correction and improvement in pelvic obliquity (PO) when preoperative L5 tilt was < 15°. Background: Gabapentin and intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) can reduce postoperative pain scores, postoperative opioid use, and time to completing physical therapy compared to PCA alone after posterior spinal fusion (PSF) for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Gabapentin combined with intrathecal morphine has not been studied. The primary purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate whether perioperative gabapentin and intrathecal morphine provide more effective pain control than intrathecal morphine alone after PSF for AIS.

As precision oncology has evolved, patients and their families have become more involved in efforts to access these treatments via fundraising and campaigning that take place outside of the larger cancer charities. In this paper, we explore the solidarities, networks, and emotional work of the UK-based access advocates, drawing on the stories of nine advocates, which included interviews and content analyses of their social media posts and coverage of their case in news, commentary, and fundraising websites. We consider the emotional and knowledge work of building networks that spanned consumerist and activist agendas, forged individual and collective goals, and orientations toward the public, private, and third sectors as part of securing support and access.
