The diagnosis of adrenomyeloneuropathy, the adult form of adrenoleukodystrophy, and Addison's disease was made at the age of 20 by evidence of an increased concentration of long-chain fatty acids in the plasma. The therapy is symptom-oriented.

Clinical aspects of posterior uveitis in ocular sarcoidosis.

Two clinical forms of the "white spot" syndrome in patients with posterior uveitis in definitive and presumable ocular sarcoidosis were analyzed. Group 1 was characterized by periphlebitis and discrete white spots around the vein of the retina, so-called "candle-wax", whereas group 2 showed yellow-orange solitary nodules located at the choroid, i.e.

Panophthalmitis after spontaneous perforation in glaucomatous eye.

Panophthalmitis is an acute, purulent inflammation of the eyeball that involves all its structures and extends into the orbit. A case of a fifty-seven year old male treated earlier due to glaucoma and trophic ulcus of the cornea, was presented in this paper. He was admitted to hospital with intensive orbital pain and redness of the right eye, elevated body temperature, bulbus protrusion with limited movement, chemosis, edematous cornea, hypopyon, iris of invisible drawing and relief.

Traumatic anterior dislocation of the crystalline lens and its surgical management.

This paper reports a case of a 57-year old female who had sustained a blunt ocular trauma resulting in anterior dislocation of the crystalline lens and acute painful visual loss in the left eye. The patient was managed with anterior chamber intracapsular phacoemulsification through a small anterior capsulotomy, pars plana vitrectomy, and surgical iridotomy. Aphakia was corrected by a contact lens.

Bilateral retinal detachment in a case of preeclampsia.

Serous retinal detachment is an unusual cause of visual loss in preeclampsia. We report the case of 24-years-old primipara with severe preeclampsia who developed bilateral serous retinal detachment a few hours after delivery. A few weeks after delivery there was spontaneous resorption of the subretinal fluid and complete resolution bilateral serous retinal detachment, with residual pigmentary changes of the retinal pigment epithelium.

Mediterranean and central-eastern European countries host viruses of two different clades of plum pox virus strain M.

The genetic diversity of plum pox virus strain M (PPV-M) was assessed by analyzing 28 isolates collected in 8 European countries. Two genomic fragments spanning the (Cter)P3-6K1-(Nter)CI coding region as well as the full coat protein coding region were sequenced directly from PCR products. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the geographical origin of the collected isolates was clearly associated with two different PPV-M clades.
