Objective: To compare novices' performance on simulated laparoscopic tasks with a box trainer and virtual reality (VR) trainer before and after training on one system, and to compare performance between groups following training.

Study Design: Randomized, prospective study.

Sample Population: Twelve veterinary students without prior hands-on laparoscopic experience were randomly assigned to the box or VR training group.

Both drugs cause microbiome disturbance and have been associated with increased cancer risk in adults, but effects of these drugs on the growing foetus and infant remain understudied.

Background: Long-term pain is a common health problem that results in disability for patients of all ages, leading to an enormous economic burden. Over 20% of the population suffer from long-term pain. Unfortunately, there are no clinical tests that predicts who will develop long-term pain.

Personalized circulating tumor DNA analysis for sensitive disease monitoring and detection of relapse in neuroblastoma.

Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) has shown potential as a non-invasive tumor biomarker in neuroblastoma. Previous studies used generic assays for detection of selected predefined oncogenic variants as markers of ctDNA, which limits the sensitivity and excludes a subset of patients from analysis. Here we assessed patient-specific ctDNA analysis for treatment evaluation and detection of relapse in neuroblastoma.

Liver X receptor unlinks intestinal regeneration and tumorigenesis.

Uncontrolled regeneration leads to neoplastic transformation. The intestinal epithelium requires precise regulation during continuous homeostatic and damage-induced tissue renewal to prevent neoplastic transformation, suggesting that pathways unlinking tumour growth from regenerative processes must exist. Here, by mining RNA-sequencing datasets from two intestinal damage models and using pharmacological, transcriptomics and genetic tools, we identified liver X receptor (LXR) pathway activation as a tissue adaptation to damage that reciprocally regulates intestinal regeneration and tumorigenesis.

Endodontic treatment modifies circulatory inflammatory mediator levels: A systematic review with meta-analysis.

Background: There is limited and conflicting data on the reduction of circulatory inflammatory mediators in patients with apical periodontitis (AP) following endodontic treatment.

Objective: To answer the following research question: in adult healthy patients with AP [Population (P)], is there a difference before [Comparator (C)] and after various endodontic treatments (nonsurgical, surgical or retreatment) [Intervention (I)] on systemic levels of inflammatory biomarkers [Outcome (O)] in the follow-up period [Time (T)]?

Methods: An electronic literature search was conducted in the databases Scopus, PubMed, Clarivate Analytics' Web of Science, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and Grey literature from inception to July 2024 with no language restrictions. Observational studies examining changes in serum levels of inflammatory mediators were included.

Clinical Relevance of Specific IgE in Penicillin Allergy Investigation.

Introduction: Patients with immediate type allergic reactions to penicillins are at risk of anaphylaxis on reexposure. Diagnostic gold standard is drug provocation test (DPT) if allergy is not diagnosed by other means, such as skin testing or in vitro testing with measurement of specific IgE. Specific IgE testing carries low risk for the patient and blood sampling can be performed in primary care, but it is reported to have low sensitivity.

Why do dentists refrain from intervention in cases of persistent asymptomatic apical periodontitis in root canal filled teeth? An interview study among general dental practitioners.

Aim: To explore the context in which general dental practitioners (GDPs) decide to refrain from further treatment, that is, ortho- or retrograde retreatment or extraction of a root canal filled tooth with persistent asymptomatic apical periodontitis (PAAP).

Methodology: Fifteen GDPs were strategically selected for in-depth interviews. The informants were encouraged to describe in their own words and in as much detail as possible, the three most recent patient cases of PAAP of a root canal filled tooth, in which they decided to refrain from further treatment.

Patient reported fatigue after proton therapy for malignant brain tumours - Is there a relation between radiation dose and brain structures?

Background: Fatigue may significantly effect everyday- and working life for radiotherapy patients. Some studies indicate a correlation between radiation dose and irradiated volume of the brain and the presence of fatigue. Our hypothesis was that patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) can improve our understanding of the patients' symptoms following proton beam therapy (PBT) and optimize PBT for future patients.

Quantum migration and its local heat impact: Understanding local heat capacity of confined systems.

For noninteracting particles confined in a constant volume, the temperature derivative of the local energy assumes negative values in thermodynamic equilibrium at low temperatures. This peculiar behavior may entail the misleading unphysical conclusion that the local heat capacity is negative. However, we show that temperature-dependent density variations of confined particles induce an energy selective particle transport within the domain, here called temperature-induced quantum migration.

Characterizing the most demanding passages of kinematic and mechanical activity in elite football: a multifactorial approach.

This study investigated the 5-minute most demanding passages (MDP) of kinematic (distance covered) and mechanical (acceleration and deceleration) activities in elite male football according to multifactorial criterion performance variables. Global positioning systems data were collected from 39 players across 45 matches in the Swedish first division (n = 329 observations). The multifactorial kinematic variable (MDPk) was composed of the concurrent distances covered at moderate-speed running, high-speed running, and sprinting distances, and the multifactorial mechanical (MDPm) considered the concurrent occurrences of high-intensity acceleration and deceleration activities.

Heterogeneous SSTR2 target expression and a novel :: fusion clone in a progressive metastatic lesion following Lutetium-DOTATATE molecular radiotherapy in neuroblastoma: a case report.

In this case report, we present the treatment outcomes of the first patient enrolled in the LuDO-N trial. The patient is a 21-month-old girl diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma (NB) and widespread skeletal metastasis. The patient initially underwent first-line therapy according to SIOPEN HRNBL-1 but was switched to second-line treatments due to disease progression, and she was finally screened for enrollment in the LuDO-N trial due to refractory disease.

Interventions in root-filled teeth identified in general dental practice: A 6-year longitudinal observational study.

Aim: To investigate what happens to cross-sectionally identified root-filled teeth over a 6-year period, regardless of the time that elapsed since primary root canal treatment, in a cohort of adult patients regularly attending a Public Dental Service. A secondary aim was to investigate how the cumulative events affecting root-filled teeth over the same time were associated with variables obtained from a baseline examination.

Methodology: Adult patients with ≥1 previously root-filled tooth and regularly attending the Public Dental Service in Örebro County were enrolled for study participation in 2015.

Cost-effectiveness of proton beam therapy vs. conventional radiotherapy for patients with brain tumors in Sweden: results from a non-randomized prospective multicenter study.

Background: This study assessed the cost-effectiveness of proton beam therapy (PBT) compared to conventional radiotherapy (CRT) for treating patients with brain tumors in Sweden.

Methods: Data from a longitudinal non-randomized study performed between 2015 and 2020 was used, and included adult patients with brain tumors, followed during treatment and through a one-year follow-up. Clinical and demographic data were sourced from the longitudinal study and linked to Swedish national registers to get information on healthcare resource use.

Penicillin allergy delabeling has a significant impact on subsequent antibiotic use in primary care.

Efforts to delabel penicillin allergic patients are important as the majority of suspected penicillin allergy can be ruled out by relevant allergy testing. The aim is to change the antibiotic pattern in delabeled patients to minimize use of unnecessary broad-spectrum antibiotics, reducing the risk of antimicrobial resistance and making treatment more cost effective. However, published information on subsequent antibiotic use is scarce.

Applying all available data for AZD4831, (R)-1-(2-(1-aminoethyl)-4-chlorobenzyl)-2-thioxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrrolo[3,2-d]pyrimidin-4(5H)-one, a reliable predictive model was developed despite minor differences in technical batch tablet compositions. Early forced degradation studies were performed to map potential degradation pathways.

Magnetic Monopole-Like Behavior in Superparamagnetic Nanoparticle Coated With Chiral Molecules.

Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) have attracted wide attention due to their promising applications in biomedicine, chemical catalysis, and magnetic memory devices. In this work, the force is measured between a single SPION coated with chiral molecules and a ferromagnetic substrate by atomic force microscopy (AFM), with the substrate magnetized either toward or away from the approaching AFM tip. The force between the coated SPION and the magnetic substrate depends on the handedness of the molecules adsorbed on the SPION and on the direction of the magnetization of the substrate.

Swedish Translation and Cultural Adaptation of the Head and Neck Patient Symptom Checklist: An Instrument to Screen for Nutrition Impact Symptoms in Clinical Practice and Research.

Background: The Head and Neck Patient Symptom Checklist (HNSC) is a validated 2-part instrument used to ask patients with head and neck cancer about the nutrition impact symptoms they experience (part 1) and how these interfere with their eating (part 2).

Purpose: The purpose of this work was to translate and culturally adapt the HNSC into Swedish in accordance with the guidelines of the International Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR).

Methods: The ISPOR guidelines include 10 steps, and these were thoroughly followed.

Long-Lasting Response to Lorlatinib in Patients with ALK-Driven Relapsed or Refractory Neuroblastoma Monitored with Circulating Tumor DNA Analysis.

Unlabelled: Patients with anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-driven neuroblastoma may respond to tyrosine kinase inhibitors, but resistance to treatment occurs and methods currently used for detection of residual disease have limited sensitivity. Here, we present a national unselected cohort of five patients with relapsed or refractory ALK-driven neuroblastoma treated with lorlatinib as monotherapy and test the potential of targeted circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) analysis as a guide for treatment decisions in these patients. We developed a sequencing panel for ultrasensitive detection of ALK mutations associated with neuroblastoma or resistance to tyrosine kinase inhibitors and used it for ctDNA analysis in 83 plasma samples collected longitudinally from the four patients who harbored somatic ALK mutations.

PCA, PC-CVA, and Random Forest of GCIB-SIMS Data for the Elucidation of Bacterial Envelope Differences in Antibiotic Resistance Research.

Antibiotic resistance can rapidly spread through bacterial populations via bacterial conjugation. The bacterial membrane has an important role in facilitating conjugation, thus investigating the effects on the bacterial membrane caused by conjugative plasmids, antibiotic resistance, and genes involved in conjugation is of interest. Analysis of bacterial membranes was conducted using gas cluster ion beam-secondary ion mass spectrometry (GCIB-SIMS).
