Endoscopic Resection of Nasal Mucosal Melanoma Using Temporary Transseptal Access.

Nasal mucosal melanoma (NMM) is a rare tumor with a poor prognosis. Although an endoscopic resection of malignant nasal tumor now becomes a treatment of choice when the surgical margin can be secured, it is still controversial. We report three cases of NMM that was successfully removed en bloc with clear margins by endoscopic surgery with temporal transseptal access.

Attitudes Regarding Medications for Opioid Use Disorder Among Peer Recovery Coaches.

Objectives: A growing number of individuals are employed as peer recovery coaches to mentor, support, and educate those in recovery. Despite the robust evidence base for the benefits of medications for treating opioid use disorder (OUD), prior research has identified peers in recovery to hold both positive and negative attitudes toward medications for OUD (MOUDs). We aimed to survey peer recovery coaches in Massachusetts about their attitudes toward working with individuals utilizing MOUDs.

Anomalous Nonlinear Dynamics Behavior of Fractional Viscoelastic Beams.

Fractional models and their parameters are sensitive to intrinsic microstructural changes in anomalous materials. We investigate how such physics-informed models propagate the evolving anomalous rheology to the nonlinear dynamics of mechanical systems. In particular, we study the vibration of a fractional, geometrically nonlinear viscoelastic cantilever beam, under base excitation and free vibration, where the viscoelasticity is described by a distributed-order fractional model.

Background: Although some studies have reported cardiac diseases in macaques, an adequate screening method for cardiac enlargement has not yet been established. This study aimed to evaluate the positioning of macaques for radiographs and establish reference intervals for the cardiothoracic ratio (CTR).

Materials And Methods: We developed a device for chest radiography in the sitting position and performed chest radiography in 50 Japanese and 48 rhesus macaques to evaluate the CTR and chest cavity size.

Background: In recent years, there has been increasing interest in implementing digital technologies to diagnose, monitor, and intervene in substance use disorders. Smartphones are now a vehicle for facilitating telepsychiatry visits, measuring health metrics, and communicating with health care professionals. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the movement toward web-based and hybrid clinic visits and meetings, it has become especially salient to assess phone ownership among individuals with substance use disorders and their comfort in navigating phone functionality and using phones for mental health purposes.

Thoracoscopic Lateral Basal Segmentectomy Based on Dissection Along the Intersegmental Veins.

In the conventional method of lateral basal (S9) segmentectomy, the intersegmental plane is first divided between the superior segment and the anterior segment, then the S9 segment is removed from the other basilar segments. We show here our modified method of thoracoscopic S9 segmentectomy based on dissection along the intersegmental veins. Our technique is unique in that we do not divide the intersegmental plane between the superior segment and the anterior segment.

Though it is well known that plasma OT concentrations change drastically during delivery, it remains unexplored whether and how OT receptors in the maternal brain are activated. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study where the oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) and carbon-based scope for growth (C-SFG) were applied as biomarkers to evaluate the response of the brackish water clam Corbicula japonica to four spatiotemporally varying environmental factors.

Use of a multiplex polymerase chain reaction assay for the early detection of an outbreak of human parainfluenza virus type 3 infection in a nursery school during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Introduction: Although outbreaks of parainfluenza virus type 3 (PIV-3) have been reported in children, to our knowledge none have been reported in a nursery school. As the symptoms of PIV-3 infection are similar to those of COVID-19 infection, accurate diagnosis of PIV-3 and other respiratory viruses is important during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Aims: We experienced an outbreak of upper respiratory symptoms at a nursery school in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, from 29/5/2021 to 13/6/2021 and aimed to determine the causative organism(s).

The effect of vibration generated by demolition work on irradiation position accuracy of stereotactic radiotherapy system.

Purpose: One existing building, adjacent to the radiotherapy building, where stereotactic radiation was done, was to be demolished to give space for the construction of a new building. However, we were concerned that the vibrations generated by this demolition work, which occurred within 2 m from the radiotherapy building, would affect the radiation position accuracy of the radiotherapy machine.

Methods: To determine whether radiotherapy could be performed safely during the demolition period, we performed simulation tests involving the vibrations generated during demolition, measured these vibrations, and verified their effect on the irradiation position accuracy of the stereotactic radiotherapy system.

Although the number of large-scale, next-generation-sequencing-based PGx studies has recently increased, little is known about the risks and benefits of returning PGx results to ostensibly healthy individuals in research settings.

Lung cancer can sometimes present as a comorbidity with MACLD; however, the clinical presentation and outcomes of comorbid MACLD following lung cancer resection remain unclear. Therefore, we retrospectively assessed 17 patients with MACLD undergoing lung cancer resection to determine the impact of lung cancer surgery on comorbid MACLD.

We analyzed the incidence of bone marrow fibrosis in 91 newly diagnosed Japanese multiple myeloma (MM) patients and evaluated the impact of fibrosis on clinical characteristics and therapeutic outcomes. Thirty-four (37%) patients had greater than grade 1 bone marrow fibrosis.
