Maternal and neonatal outcomes in women with history of coronary artery disease.

Background: Pregnancy outcomes in women with pre-existing coronary artery disease (CAD) are poorly described. There is a paucity of data therefore on which to base clinical management to counsel women, with regard to both maternal and neonatal outcomes.

Method: We conducted a retrospective multicentre study of women with established CAD delivering at 16 UK specialised cardiac obstetric clinics.

Maternal and fetal outcomes in pregnancies complicated by Marfan syndrome.

Objectives: Information to guide counselling and management for pregnancy in women with Marfan syndrome (MFS) is limited. We therefore conducted a UK multicentre study.

Methods: Retrospective observational study of women with MFS delivering between January 1998 and March 2018 in 12 UK centres reporting data on maternal and neonatal outcomes.

HIV Status and Other Risk Factors for Prevalent and Incident Sexually Transmitted Infection during Pregnancy (2000-2014).

Background: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are associated with adverse birth outcomes. Current prenatal STI screening guidelines define "risk" without explicit consideration of HIV status. Our objective was to test the hypothesis that HIV status is associated with bacterial STI in pregnant women.

Birth weight in pregnancies complicated by maternal heart disease.

Objective: To assess median and percentile birthweight distribution in women with various groups of heart disease relative to a contemporaneous comparison group.

Methods: Data on birth weight and gestational age were collected from 1321 pregnancies ≥24 weeks' gestation in 1053 women with heart disease from seven UK maternity units. Women were assigned to one of 16 groups according to their cardiac lesion.

Mechanical Mitral Valve Replacement during the 2nd Trimester of Pregnancy.

We report the case of a 44-year-old pregnant woman who was diagnosed with symptomatic severe mitral stenosis that did not respond to optimal medical therapy and balloon valvuloplasty. After a multidisciplinary team discussion on the timing and risks of interventions and postoperative optimization of peripartum anticoagulation, the patient underwent mechanical mitral valve replacement during the 2nd trimester of pregnancy. The outcome was excellent for the mother and the infant.

Percutaneous mitral commisurotomy during pregnancy - A report of two cases performed in a United Kingdom tertiary centre and a review of the literature.

We report two cases of severe mitral stenosis where percutaneous mitral commisurotomy was performed within pregnancy. The first case involves an emergency procedure for a new diagnosis of severe mitral stenosis in a woman presenting with pulmonary oedema at 27 weeks' gestation. The second case is of a woman known to have mitral stenosis who underwent a semi-elective procedure for deterioration in symptoms.

Trends in maternal deaths from epilepsy in the United Kingdom: a 30-year retrospective review.

Objective: Neurological diseases remain the second most common cause of maternal mortality from indirect causes, according to the last United Kingdom confidential enquiry into maternal death. The maternal mortality rate from epilepsy is reported as 0.61 per 100,000 maternities.

Successful bridge to transplant in a highly sensitized patient with a complicated pump pocket infection.

A 32-year-old man with doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy presented in cardiogenic shock. He underwent placement of a Novacor (WorldHeart, Inc., Oakland, CA) left ventricular assist device as a bridge to transplant.
