Objective: The narrative enhancement and cognitive therapy (NECT) intervention aims to reduce self-stigma among people with severe mental illness. Based on previous studies that showed the intervention's beneficial outcomes, we conducted an uncontrolled pilot study of NECT in the Netherlands to assess both feasibility in delivering NECT and outcomes of the intervention for self-stigma, hope, recovery, and self-concept clarity.
Methods: Feasibility was assessed through uptake and implementation data that included an assessment of enhancing and impeding factors according to surveys with NECT facilitators, and interviews with participants.
Introduction: Substance abuse treatment centers require reliable and valid instruments to monitor treatment progress, to evaluate treatment effectiveness, and to initiate clinical trials. Currently the Measurements in the Addictions for Triage and Evaluation (MATE) 2.1, an instrument that serves these purposes, is considered quite lengthy and intensive, especially in the case of allocation to milder treatment intensity.

It was hypothesized that patients matched to the recommended level of care would have (a) better outcomes than patients treated at a less intensive level of care, and (b) outcomes equivalent to patients treated at a more intensive level of care. Patients at two Dutch substance-abuse treatment centers who completed intake and were allocated at either a brief or standard outpatient treatment (n=471) were followed prospectively to determine differential outcomes for those who were and were not treated at the recommended level of car.

Exploratory factor analysis conducted in 142 patients generated a model that was confirmed in a different validation sample (n=106) using confirmatory factor analysis. Two factors were found to have satisfactory psychometric properties and a consistent structure over time: relationship and internal change.

This study examines the feasibility and validity of low-budget telephonic follow-up interviews for ROM in a substance abuse treatment centre (SATC).
