Monocytic acute myeloid leukemia (AML) responds poorly to current treatments, including venetoclax-based therapy. We conducted in vivo and in vitro CRISPR-Cas9 library screenings using a mouse monocytic AML model and identified SETDB1 and its binding partners (ATF7IP and TRIM33) as crucial tumor promoters in vivo. The growth-inhibitory effect of Setdb1 depletion in vivo is dependent mainly on natural killer (NK) cell-mediated cytotoxicity.

We herein report a 79-year-old man diagnosed with primary gastric diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) with gastropleural fistula (GPF), successfully treated by chemotherapy without surgery. If primary gastric DLBCL perforates during chemotherapy, surgery is often warranted. Our patient's computed tomography findings showed loculated pleural effusion with air foci in the left lower lobe, suggesting GPF.

The favorable outcomes of venetoclax-based regimens in older adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) may result in its regimen becoming the standard treatment. However, the dosage of venetoclax is fixed, irrespective of body surface area (BSA) or weight. Therefore, individualized dosing using therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) may help optimize treatment in a safe and effective manner.

Introduction: Elderly people (≥65 years) with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are becoming increasingly prevalent, notably in Japan. As cardiovascular (CV) risk increases with age and sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors reduce CV risk, elderly patients with T2DM are increasingly likely to be prescribed these glucose-lowering drugs. There is controversy surrounding the effects of SGLT2 inhibitors on muscle mass, particularly in elderly patients for whom loss of muscle is especially undesirable; however, robust evidence on this important issue is lacking.

Deep-sequencing analysis of nucleic acids from leaf tissue of Japanese persimmon trees exhibiting fruit apex disorder in some fruits detected two molecules that were graft transmitted to healthy seedlings. One of the complete genomes consisted of 13 467 nt and encoded six genes similar to those of plant rhabdoviruses. The virus formed a distinct cluster in the genus Cytorhabdovirus with lettuce necrotic yellows virus, lettuce yellow mottle virus and strawberry crinkle virus in a phylogenetic tree based on the L protein (RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, RdRp).

Cross-resistance to macrolide, lincosamide, and streptogramin B (MLSB) antibiotics is mainly mediated by the erm (erythromycin ribosome methylation) genes that encode 23S rRNA methylases in enterococi, and various mechanisms are involved in the streptogramin B resistance. Prevalence of MLSB resistance and its genetic mechanisms were analyzed for a total of 159 strains of Enterococcus faecium isolated from clinical specimens in a university hospital in Japan from 1997 to 2006. Resistance to erythromycin (EM) and clindamycin was detected in 88.

Hip flexor spasticity, which is often associated with central nervous system (CNS) diseases, is a major impediment in rehabilitation. In order to cope with this problem, lumbar nerve blocking techniques developed by Meelhuysen and major and minor psoas muscle blocking techniques developed by Awad have been used in combination with physical therapies. Based on these techniques, we conducted major and minor psoas muscle phenol block (motor point block or intramuscular nerve block) under ultrasonic monitoring.
